Arsenal sign Reyes

He has Overmars' wing play and Bergkamp's elegance

Also this is what Overmars said about him

He is a big talent in Spain.

I was very surprised when I heard Arsenal had snapped him up.

There were rumours he would move to one of the big Spainish clubs, including Barcelona.

Playing for a great manager like Arsene Wenger can only help him in his development.

Mr Wenger is very good at getting the best from young players and Reyes is in very safe hands.

I wish him all the best at a club that is still very special to me

We are still special to him? Unlike a certain Petit and Anelka I don't ever remember him bad mouthing the club when he left and I remember him saying good things about the fans. Was a great player for us, probably was offered good money and got the chance to play for Barca who were at the time a better club than us. Still remember his goal at Old Trafford when he put the ball between Schmeichal's legs and scored :D

im still amazed they are letting him go now rather than the summer, they are chasing a european place.

Arsenal offered more than they thought they could get. We made an offer in the summer and they laughed at us and said we couldn't buy hit boots with that much. They probably had in mind how much they wanted for him. We probably offered a figure just over that and they had to accept. Reyes didn't want to go to another spanish club and we were probably the only foreign club who had shown proper interest. Chelsea had Duff who is in good form and everyone knows your after Robben. We went for him now coz if he plays in euro 2004 there is a good chance many more clubs will go after him and his price would rise, also we were short on a striker/attacking midfielder.

Seville let him go because Arsenal offered them "silly money". It was probably made clear to them that Arsenal's valuation of the player would fall if he wasn't available until the summer, as Wenger stated the reason we wanted him now was so we could have some backup over the next 6 months due to lots of Strikers being missing. Bottomline is, Arsenal got him "early" by paying over the odds.

They are saying we offered them silly money to get the fans off their back, some fans were gonna put bricks through the window of the president house (or something like that) so he had to make it out as if we made them a crazy offer.

Reyes passes his medical

Also says his squad number has not yet been confirmed! I swear I thought he said he was gonna wear No.9, would be weird for player who isn't an out and out striker to wear the No.9 shirt though!

I'm hearing he might still be available for the City game, the spanish FA haven't said yet whether they want the suspension to carry over

Was snowing badly in west london as well! I hope he plays, I'm gonna watch that match so really wanna see him play!

yep I'm going to bournemouth on saturday, checked the forcast on BBC website and the MINIMUM temp will be 11C!

These days shirt numbers get dished out in a fairly slap dash manner if their "usual" shirt number is taken, they just find something roughly appropriate. For instance Raul was given #7 at Madrid, which you really wouldn't expect a striker to be wearing. Ian Wright had #8.

I'm guessing they are stalling because they don't wanna p off Jeffers. Bergkamp (#10) and Wiltord (#11) may well be leaving in the summer, so they could give him a temporary shirt like #29 until the summer perhaps when he gets a real one.

Could even get Adams' old number :)

He might give Adams No.6 shirt to him, when Wenger gave freddie the No.8 shirt the main reason was that he didn't want another striker to have it due to history behind the shirt. He felt it would add pressure on the striker he gave it to so he chose a midfielder instead. Freddie in true Wright fashion scored on his debut against Man utd and got booked :D

i'm sure i caught sky sports news showing the printing of reyes shirts with no.9 on them. wasn't paying that much attention so not sure if it was from club shop but in the report they were talking to people around the ground.

Helguera thinks he is better than Owen! Wait a min is that a good thing or not  :p hehe, in Spain they rate Owen very highly so this is a big compliment to him. He also thinks he should have come to R.Madrid!

Reyes was in tears when he left Seville for Highbury, must be hard for a person so close to their family to leave them behind with such short notice :(

More details of the deal here, seems like we have done this deal very well and it won't cost us as much as some are making it out.

Reyes is expected to be introduced to the media at a press conference today or tomorrow. A suspect temperament earned him 14 yellow cards and one red in 34 appearances for Sevilla last season and he will not be able to make his debut against Manchester City on Sunday because of suspension hanging over from La Liga.

Sounds like it will be home from home for the lad!;) :D

It looks like he will be able to play on Sunday as the spanish FA haven't told the english FA and I read that they aren't gonna ask for him to be suspended. His shirt Number has not been confirmed yet.

He has got his international clearance and has been confirmed that he can play against Man City :D I wonder if Wenger will start with him, doubt it but I hope so!

His mother, father, girlfriend and brother are gonna move here with him. This is very good news as he will probably get depressed on his own! He has had rough upbringing and is close to his family so probably needs them by his side. Also giving him £500 a month just for phone calls to Spain!

Wenger, Pires, Cesc, Senderos and Lauren can all speak spanish so that helps, Edu + Gilberto also speak portugese which is kinda similar to Spanish IIRC.
