Arsene Wenger: Arsenal boss to leave club at end of season

How much managerial experience did Pep have before taking over at Barcelona? :)
Well who did he have when he took over?? Messi et al, the team he inherited was possibly the best Barca side ever.

As I’ve said I’d prefer a manager with some pedigree but if it’s to be Arteta then I’ll back him but I don’t see us doing any better than what we are at the moment.

If they're going down the inexperienced route, I'd have thought Vieira would have been ahead of Arteta.

I hope they sort it out soon, I don't want months of this..

I really hope that when they get around to erecting a statue to Arsene outside the Emirates, they use the iconic 'king of Old Trafford' pose

I doubt it. It would look like a why did you sack me, which it seems like what kind of happened due to fan pressure, as I do not think he was ready to go.

did he not just manage the B team for a bit?

No idea tbh.

I agree, if we are going to get a manager it needs to be someone who improves on Wenger. I personally do not see many of those out there that are available. Would have been great had we got Pep or Klopp, would have welcomed that. All the names mentioned so far none of them make me drool in anticipation.

Right now I actually would not mind to see a Henry, Viera or Arteta take over. Better than a Brendan Rogers or Alan Perdew or something.

As I thought:
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that the timing of his departure from the club after nearly 22 years "was not really my decision".
I think he would have wanted to stay one more year to finish of his contract, which is what I think they should have done and had a manager lined up ready to take over from there.

Lets see if we can get Enrique now.

As a non arsenal fan I believe arsenal need a manager that has their own ideas, rather than a scapegoat that'll live in Wenger's shadow.

That's not to say it shouldn't be attacking football of course, just need the mentality and personality to back it up, that includes players and manager.

As I said above you will have whoever is willing to take the job and spend the least. Already rumoured the new boss will only have 50m to spend.

You will work your way through a few scapegoats and then employ someone half decent.

The finances and willingness to spend have moved on so much since Arsenal last won the league, the jobs a poison chalice.

If this is the case then what was the point of getting rid of wenger? Bloody small vocal percentage of fans may end up making things worse.

It’s just a rumour that it’s £50mill so let’s not get too carried away. a lot of the stuff that was reported in the media turned out to be bull in the end.

Getting rid of Wenger is a step in the right direction but the board needs to be looked at because they aren’t football fans, they are more business before football.

History tells us that it's a pretty accurate ballpark figure. There hasn't been any net spends over a ~100m in like 4/5 years or something.

Edit. Scrap that, there hasn't been a net spend over 100m ever.

Average net spend over the last 3 years is £45m.

Unless the board have a change of heart, I don't see things changing anytime soon.

Even when we went out of the top 4 and Tottenham finished above us, we still make a profit from transfers! Disgraceful really, nothing will change whilst that freak Kroenke is the majority shareholder.
Sacking Wenger has been a great diversion for them.

small vocal? lol most wanted him out
Not sure.

But I just hope whoever we get is an improvement on Wenger. Hopefully someone that is long term manager also. We will see over the next couple of seasons if it was a good idea getting rid of Wenger or not. I hope we get back in the top four at the very least and it proves to be a good choice, but I am not holding my breath.

Top four? That's not good enough. Premier League or bust and give another manager a go. That seems to be what the most vocal fans want.

Less than a season before the sack the manager campaign starts. That is unless Arsenal are in the top four, I mean in the Champions League, I mean winning games in Europe, no actually Arsenal need to win silverware. But not the wrong trophies. Not easy ones like the FA Cup.
