AS & A Results Thread.

B - computing
C - CHemistry
C - psychology

rather dissapointing, im only 3 marks off a B in chem, but still, i wanted an A in computing.

Regardless, got me into cardiff uni so all is good :)

Becuase the first person had less time to prepare, less practice and is just generally better at the subject?

I re-sat because my computing teacher taught us everything entirely wrong, he quit after the first year leaving me with an E in computing, second highest grade in the class.
If id not been able to re-sit my teacher would have ruined my chances in getting into any reputable university.... people arent born with the knowledge of Assembly language its aquired through learning, a teacher that teaches it to you, says youll get an A, and is actually just spinning off rubbish, doesnt help you learn.

The following year my attendance fell from 96% to ~75%, my results improved considerably. Is that all down to practice ? or a school failing me ?

Not everyone is born into the same environment, so you cant just blanket categorise re-sits as unfair advantages, they help people who have been shot in the foot, or have shot them selves in the foot.

Whats wrong with a second chance ?

Do enough to get in to your chosen Uni (if you want to go), and don't worry about grades :)

Well done to all.

Don't give up, I know medicine is competitive, but if you really want it you could try after a chemistry degree as a GEP (Graduate Entry Programme) candidate. I know people who are doctors now who've done that.
Would be a much better idea to do a biological sciences degree, as many GEPs specify this as a requirement for entry.

Phog: Also whilst GEP is a perfectly valid means of entry into medicine, remember there are relatively few places on these courses resulting in many people not getting offers - which can be demoralising after 3 years studying. Also, make sure you are enthusiastic about the degree you choose if you choose this route, because there are no guarantees of medicine afterweards - would you be happy with a career related to the degree?

Don't give up hope, many universities will consider resit applicants, it's just a matter of contacting them all and seeing who would consider you. As long as you don't restrict yourself too much at this stage (ie ruling out universities - as they are all as respectable as each other at the end of the day), and work on making yourself stand out in other ways as you suggest.

Dunno if you go on any other forums, but there's loads of info at The Student Room, with many people in the same boat as you, as well as having gotten into medicine through both the above methods :)

I got Maths B, Chem B, Bio B. Respectable grades but my dreams of studying medicine are currently in tatters.

I was v close to A's with Chem and Bio but it's a matter of whether or not any uni's will take AAB after resits or not. Currently determined to strengthen other areas of my application in the UKCAT / BMAT with muchos work experience (working as a nursing auxiliary) so I've not given up yet. :)

Gratz to all the people that got the grades they needed! I hope those that didn't can see how much else there is out there (even if I refuse to!).

BBB? Well, guess what :p I got ABC (French, Bio, Chem) in mine and missed my AAB offer, and I am very much studying medicine now (I took a year out to resit). That was 4 years ago, and to be honest I haven't kept that up to date with admissions requirements, and in particular policies and trends on retake students and grades. But just as j00ni says, get on the phone, call them and ask ask ask, it's the least you can do.

Good luck with everything :)

511/600 - English Lit - A
455/600 - Maths - B
469/600 - Chemistry - B

It seems taking 14 modules didn't pay off, I got a lot of low A's and high B's but not enough to get 2 A's or more. I'm tempted, however, to retake about 6 modules so I can get 3 A's but I'm not sure it's worth it (I'm reapplying next year because of my gap year). I got my offer for Southampton but want to go somewhere with a bit more prestige. :)

A - Maths
A - Further Maths
A - Physics
A - Chemistry

So, so happy.

Spent so much time on chem and managed to get the A. Well chuffed - by far the hardest subject at A level imo (then again I would completely fail english, history etc...)

Well done everybody.

I'm off to Imperial in October. Woot! To do physics :D

Wierdly my Imp letter arrived this morning before we left the house. Kinda ruined the surprise :)

Good job on the further maths A grade! I did some further maths AS modules on my own and found them pretty damn challenging - way harder than A2 Chemistry to be honest. :p

Just wanted to say well dont people! :D

Back in the day I remember getting my results (and then very little after due to celebratory beverages!). :p

Edit: Sweet Jesus there isn't much in the way of clearing this year!

Got mine earlier on today

Maths-A
Further Maths-B
Economics-B

Was only 11 marks off an A in Further Maths and was pretty chuffed with the results as I messed around last year and got C's across the board in my As levels, so I was pleased that I managed to bring the results up :).

No results for me, I'm far too old for that. I did a BTEC so never had the whole A-Level result day buzz but I do remember how scared I was during the wait for my GCSE results.

Anyway...congratulations to all, I hope your planned futures bring you all you hope for. After all your work you deserve it. :)

AS LEVEL

A - German
A - French
A - Drama and Theatre Studies
D - English Literature :/ <--- can't believe it, got a 'U' in my poetry and drama unit.

Unfortunately, my plans of taking three languages next year are now thwarted, as i don't think i'll be able to make up the marks lost already in Eng Lit. Drama it will be!

I'm going to Queen Mary's aswell - what are you both doing?

I'll be doing a LLM (masters in law).

I phoned up a couple of days ago and it doesn't look like they'll be able to offer me halls though (applied ages ago just phoned up to check how it was going) so hope you applied for halls early!

I'll give you BOTH the privilege of buying me a drink :D
