AS & A Results Thread.

It's absolutely stupid that you get to do resits for your exams in England.

Why? Sometimes people need a kick up the backside to realise that they need to work to get a decent grade after sitting the exam once. Other times, they'll have extenuating circumstances around the time of the exams.

The aim of exams is as a benchmark for how well somebody knows a subject, a combination of knowledge and application. It doesn't hurt anybody to allow someone to take an exam again to get a truer reflection of their ability.

Come on!

Got my maths AS today only, congrats to everyone else. Not looking forward to next year after i was so apprehensive about just one AS.

Got 294/300 (A):D absolutely chuffed to bits with that!

Well Done!!

My brother got 299/300 in Maths at AS, I could only manage a 241 hehe. Have a fun day and celebrate it! :)

I got Maths B, Chem B, Bio B. Respectable grades but my dreams of studying medicine are currently in tatters.

I was v close to A's with Chem and Bio but it's a matter of whether or not any uni's will take AAB after resits or not. Currently determined to strengthen other areas of my application in the UKCAT / BMAT with muchos work experience (working as a nursing auxiliary) so I've not given up yet. :)

Gratz to all the people that got the grades they needed! I hope those that didn't can see how much else there is out there (even if I refuse to!).

Oooo nice subject, i did MEng Mechanical Design, Materials, and Manufacture. Was in ancaster in my 1st year in 2003, and to be honest it was rubbish. But became great friends with a load of people in sherwood, and lived with groups of them during my 2nd-final year. Now most of them are moving down or have already started work in london, and guess where im trying to go ;) :D
Awesome, I'm starting as a chartered accountant in london in mid-September :) Good luck with the job search!

Got BBDU but off to university regardless of the poor grades, needed ABB but that got moved to BBB, looks like Royal Holloway really want me, or they're desperate :D

Doing a BA in history.

BAD. aka:

A in Media (91%, kinda proves it's easy :p)
B in IT
D in Physics, annoyingly only a few marks off a C so might resit one.

I knew they were my results ever since my last exam though so no suprises, it's all fine, I'm off to Lincoln Uni, time to get saving for booze money. :)

Don't give up, I know medicine is competitive, but if you really want it you could try after a chemistry degree as a GEP (Graduate Entry Programme) candidate. I know people who are doctors now who've done that.

You are lucky, im in Scotland and a few years back when I did my standard grades, also known as GCSE's I fell ill with pancreatitus and gallstones, was in hospital for 2 weeks, during this time the exams were on. The SQA wouldn't even accept it and they said they could bring an invidulator into hospital for me to sit it. I couldn't as I was linked up tubes everywhere. So in the end they failed me on all of them. Shame really considering on the actual corse work I passed all the projects and pieces with A's.

Only AS results, boundary for an A is overall 240/300

Geography - 240 / 300
Physics - 242/300
Chemistry - 241/300
Maths - 274 / 300

So 4 A's for AS by the skin of my teeth! Can't wait to drop geography though, got C in the applied skills module.

Yes it does. If someone doesn't try then that should be reflected in their grade.

It belittles the achievements of those who actually did well in their exams (not resits) and increases their competition for places in unis etc. If I do something time after time I'm going to be getting better and better marks. Do you really think that is a true reflection of my ability in the subject?

First time results should be everything to be honest.
