Wow....I actually feel a little embarrassed for you Swampyseifer. Seriously, some things in life are fantastic ideas in your head but should never...ever...be brought to life.

Quick, find a bear, the bigger and angrier the better. Then tattoo the following on said bear whilst it's still trying to kill you.

"Will you consent to give me your daughters hand in marrage"

The drag said bear the 4 miles too his house and proceed to then fight it to the death on his front lawn, presenting it's tattooed rear to him after finally overcoming the bear with only your hands.

This is the only way to get your manliness back.
 
The father has already read the email and replied to say that he is glad that I have chosen to consider his opinnion in the matter

I can't beleive you did that. Asking parents is simply a tradition - you don't need to do it.

Therefore:

a) If you wish to uphold the tradition do so. It is not traditional to EMAIL him
b) If you are not interested in the tradition just marry her.

I wonder if he'll take into account the sincerity of asking his permission by email when he's considering the matter.
