Asrock Z68 Extreme 7

does the cd contain the latest chipset etc drivers? or do we need to d/l any updated versions?

I was thinking the same earlier unfortunately the drivers on the site dont have a release date so have to compare after loading from CD drivers. Im gonna check tomorrow hopefully and let you know.

have you set your boards up?

no not yet, as I mentioned still undecided on ram. tempted by the ripjawx as they're so cheap(~£73 for 2x 8gb kits), but not sure about the fins interfering with the arctic freezer 7 pro rev2.

That's a bargain price! Your gonna have to do some serious measuring first, find the height of the memory first or ask someone to measure thats already got that kit. Then see if you can find the measurement of the heatsink and see how far the fins or fan are from the motherboard. If that makes sense?

I have no idea how big the cooler is but ill take a look at the AC7, my intel hsf is only a few mil away from my ram! It is crowded with all the heatsinks surrounding it

I'd suggest getting a better cooler than the arctic freezer 7 pro rev2

I will be in the future but have spent £1520 thus far(u2711, 2x sapphire 6950 toxic, i2500k, extreme7, 128gb crucial m4) before you add the ram and as said earlier just realised my soundcard wouldn't fit due to lack of pci slots(only 1 which will be covered by the 6950).

I bought the ac7p rev2 in January as I was planning on taking off the cpu only water-cooling on my current pc but not got around to it and the cooler has sat not being used, I built the pc in 2008 and it has gathered a lot of dust which needs cleaning(been meaning for months) so I thought I'd take out the wc for the time being but as I said I never did get around to it.

I may go water-cooling in the future but would require a bigger case as current case is the lian li a05, I have a cosmos s but wish I'd saved my money/bought some other case.

Just to add, there are a couple of software versions and drivers on Asrock's site that are more up-to-date than those on the CD. There is also a new bios version. Asrock's servers are very fast so it shouldn't take long to download if you've got a decent internet connection.

Have you tried the new bios Hamster? im a lil relucatant as everything is working. can confirm servers are fast downloaded the drivers as backup last nite and reached speeds of 1.2Mb :D

@Fowler can give me the model number of the ram your looking at buying? looking at the arctic reviews the fan tends to cover the memory slot but there is a gap underneath the fan question is how much. i can use my own E7 as a reference point and try get a arctic template based on the measurements.

check this link out hope it helps http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/cpu/venomous-x/memory_compatibly.html

it's these

hamster broadband wise I get upto 2mb(from a upto 8mb connection), don't have 20/24mb option at the exchange nor virgin media(so no 50mb/100mb). bt upto 40mb(infinity) isn't available till December.

at £23 I'm tempted to get the gerlid tranquillo but would mean no ripjawx and the ac7p rev2 will go unused(cost me £18 in January).

Ill take a look when I get home I think you might just be ok, do you know if the cooler can be fitted with the fan pointing in the opposite direction?

thanks for your help but the price of the ripjawx has gone up to £43.56 for 8gb(so 2 kits ~£87) at the place I was looking.

I can see them where I bought my memory from at £36.31 for the 8GB set.

but postage is £5.70 bringing it to £42, so now corsair vengence lp or kingston hyperx genesis grey?

just looking on the asrock website at the drivers(not check cd yet), a least for the chipset inf utility they have an older version(ver:9.2.0.1021) than on the intel website(ver:9.2.0.1030) does it make a big difference?

Forgot about postage. When I ordered from them there was a 5% discount code which would have brought the price down but it doesn't appear to work for your memory. Yours now comes to £78.32 delivered for 2x8GB sets. Still a very good price though!

It would be difficult for anyone to really give you a proper answer as to what the advantages of latest versions without any changelogs. With your 2Mbit connection it still won't take that long downloading all the drivers and utils from Asrock. This way at least you know you're getting all the latest versions.

I'm having issues with my phone plugged in via usb where i get a 'B4' error and the pc hangs before loading windows. When i disconnect the phone, the pc continues into windows. I'm, pretty sure I got a similar problem with an external drive plugged into the e-sata port.
