Assange to go!

They're literally happy that a journalist who exposed war crimes is being put on trial for a rape he didn't commit following pressure from the US government, this is the left wing of today lmao

Lmao how dare the swedes do due dillegence wr to justice.

Do you have any ******* proof it wasn’t a valid accusation?

You haven’t posted any, so I’m going to assume it’s a conspiracy theory that delightfully fits your opinion.

You gonna post the evidence or not?

I'd probably consider myself centre, maybe slightly right leaning. I'd glad to see this person face up to the accusations made of him. If he is innocent then great (although it seems weird imprisoning yourself for 10 years to avoid a trial), if he is guilty then tough titties.

I can't believe people are defending this man. "His" uncovering of atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan, whilst commendable, were simply a by product of their desire to get hold of, and leak, any information Wikileaks can get.

What political upside was there in releasing hacked emails from Sony Entertainment? None. There's absolutely zero public benefit of that information being out in the wild.

Long story short - he's a destructive attention seeker who tries to disguise his efforts as political activism. As someone else already pointed out, he endangered the lives of informants with some of his leaks. Basically, he believes he has the divine right to choose who's lives are important?

Not sure what you're so happy about?

I guess you've decided his guilt already. Along with half a dozen others here.

Usually when someone is credibly accused of a serious crime, one wants them to go and face fair trial. Assange has been hiding in an embassy to avoid facing such a fair trial; what is being celebrated is that he appears to have failed in his attempt to face fair trial. It has nothing to do with a decision about guilt, only about the proper process of justice.

You've got to laugh at how they've have had him under constant surveillance for years and yet the moment he's released the only charge we can throw at him is skipping bail and then to top it off politicians are arguing with a straight face that rape allegations should take precedence over everything they've had him under constant surveillance for costing the British tax payer millions. Even if convicted of rape Swedish prisons will be a paradise compared to his last 7 years in the embassy.

I don't imagine that he got much opportunity to commit many crimes when holed up in the Embassy.

Do you consider rape to be a trivial crime?
What do you think should take precedence?

And . . . ?
Your point is . . . ?
Should the eejit have pleaded guilty to rape years ago in order to spend a few years in Paradise in Sweden then?

He was under surveillance because he skipped bail to avoid facing the rape charges. Why is remotely odd to now see him extradited on the thing he was in self-imposed imprisonment to avoid?

Of course, they have to virtue signal at every opportunity, it's like they're scoring points that keep them in a job.

Complaints and initial investigation[edit]
On 20 August 2010, two women, a 26-year-old living in Enköping and a 31-year-old living in Stockholm,[4][5] jointly went to the Swedish police not seeking to bring charges against Assange but in order to track him down and persuade him to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases after their separate sexual encounters with him.[6][7] The police told them that they could not simply tell Assange to take a test, but that their statements would be passed to the prosecutor.[8]

The next day, the case was transferred to Chefsåklagare (Chief Public Prosecutor) Eva Finné. In answer to questions surrounding the incidents, the following day, Finné declared, "I don't think there is reason to suspect that he has committed rape". However, Karin Rosander from the Swedish Prosecution Authority, said Assange remained suspected of molestation. Police gave no further comment at the time, but continued the investigation.

There's literally nothing even in there that suggests anything to do with rape, the women haven't even accused him of rape?

Thank God we have Emily Thornberry protecting women everywhere from these evil men though, as well as all of the ***** on here

Worth reading the actual source of that rather than a cherry picked wiki page.

These women just wanted to get him to take an STD test because he slept with them without using a condom, though the sex itself was consensual, one time he said a condom broke and maybe he did it on purpose (he probably did). He also woke a women up having sex with her, though they had sex the night before and were sharing a bed together.

Personally I've had a woman rip a condom off during sex, was I raped? Should I visit the Police? I didn't ask her to do that. Oh my gosh! Maybe Emily Thornberry can send me for some councilling

Under current UK legislation, only a man can commit rape.

So........... Your defence of Assange is that you think that he probably carried out the sexual offences he's accused of.

With friends like these...

It's laughable isn't it, one woman accuses him of at least a sexual assault (having sex with her without protection against her wishes, though that could also be argued that was rape as well) and the other of actual rape and sexual violence and suddenly they only went to police to request he gets tested for STDs, what the hell has that got to do with the police? :o It's not as if they didn't have his contact details lol.

My defence is that they didn't ask for him to be charged with rape, didn't want him to be charged with rape, and he didn't actually commit rape
