Assassin's Creed IV- Black Flag

I really wasn't enjoying the game at all, until I had two days where I did not do any missions at all, I just sailed around attacking ships, raiding warehouses, attacking forts, whaling, exploring islands etc....and it was as good fun as I have had in games recently. It was epic.

Basically, this is a great Pirate game, and an awful Assassin's Creed game!

Smooth as silk at 30fps? It plays fine for me at 60fps using d3d overider to force v sync and triple buffering.

Yep. You're talking to a predominantly PC gamer here too with a decent rig, who can't stand to run games at less than 60fps.

On my Samsung TV (recent model) with the motion control settings tweaked I can achieve beautiful smoothness in AC4 on PS4. Genuinely feels like 60fps. I'm genuinley pleasantly surprised. In 'game mode' setting on the TV with all motion control off you can tell it's sub 60 fps when you pan around quickly though, yet it still feels smoother than running a PC game locked at 30fps somehow.

It's interesting as motion control on this TV with any xbox 360 games really didn't work properly at all, and would result in terrible hitching/ momentary stutters. I suspect it must be something to do with games really running locked at 30fps on PS4 whereas many 360 titles would dip below this causing problems with the 'motion control' settings.
It bodes well and I'm hoping for more varied gaming now with PC and PS4. Hardly touched a console in about 2 years.

I agree, the animus, the losing synch & Desmond crap totally destroys the immersion & I don't see why they insist on adding it to the game:confused:

I know what you're saying. It's odd - with PC games anything less than 60fps looks poor to me - noticeably jerky on panning and quite jarring. With console games 30fps looks perfectly fine. It must be to do with the viewing distance and difference in tech between tvs and monitors? I simply wouldn't play AC4 at a locked 30fps on the PC, but having seen the console version would have no problem with it.

I think it's to do with fps drops rather than a low frame rate you notice. I played bf4 on a monitor oc'd to 75 hz and noticed it dropping below 70fps and it felt a bit stuttery. Obviously at 60fps constant it feels butter smooth. I think a lot of it is to do with your eyes adjusting. Like if you have ever watched a movie shot at 60fps, it looks horrible as you're not used to it.

Now that Ubisoft has made not one but two pirate-themed games in the Assassin's Creed universe, a survey being sent out to fans (and through them to IGN) wonders if players wouldn't just be fine with a straight-up pirate game.

Well finally completed this last night, its an ok game, not as good as I had hoped. I really enjoyed the ship sequences in AC3, but I found all the time spent on the boat on this one to be a big of a drag. Plot is also pretty weak, and the setting... well lets face it - its going to be damn near impossible to top Rome as a setting.

I absolutely love the graphics though, I doubt anybody will ever do water better.

Well I'm rather annoyed to find all the stuff I did yesterday which included finding new locations, maps & upgrade treasure chests has gone  I upgraded my mortar storage & loads of other stuff & this morning when I play it's no longer there but the money I paid to upgrade has gone. This must be something to do with Ubisoft servers not registering my savegame as far as I can see :(

Completely addicted to this!

Have to agree dam nice game started my lets play yesterday for it and I have already got 12 episodes of 30min average long to upload :). I dont think I will 100% it collecting all the chests seems pointless when I can go around on my ship blow stuff up for money.

Have gone down one AA setting from EQAA to MSAA. Honestly don't notice any difference, but have gained 10 or so fps. Undecided about motion blur...this is one of the first games where i haven't minded it being on.

Finally grabbed the companion app - a neat little feature.

Well, after using the 'unlock vsync' trick I'm getting a constant 60fps everywhere. I'm only using SSAO, SMAA and VHigh shadows, but everything else is on full whack.

Had a good play yesterday evening and am quite enjoying it so far.

I can get into this game, to be fair I have not given it much time I have just got the maps back which were taken when the guards confiscated the sugar from the trader. I have gone back to Far Cry 3

I didn't really get into this at first, I had to force myself to get past the opening. Soon as it opens up though it becomes much more enjoyable. Really enjoying exploring now, and the storms look immense :). Agree with most on the Animus/Reality part of the story. As with every AC game I'm not sure why they persist with it. It's distracting, and sometimes I even forget it's all a 'simulation'. Get rid!

Having finished the game, all I am doing now is focusing on money and amassing a max fleet of 15 ships for trading missions. I have yet to get any Elite upgrades for my ship but that doesn't stop me from firing at any sod that owns a Man O Bore or a Frigate.

I just feel saddened that Ubisoft have officially lost it regarding the storyline/gameplay. 90% of this game is just tailing/eavesdrop missions, which are very tedious. I so miss the tomb/cathedral/ruins raiding elements from the previous games. If you do compare it to previous AC's then it is easy to see how much has been sacrificed. Still an ok game though for its sea faring elements.

I don't get it. I can't tell the difference between FXAA and EQAA, apart from the fact that EQAA takes a load of fps away. Currently have it on FXAA and can't see any jaggies. Any reason to have any other AA option?
