Assassin's Creed IV- Black Flag

Considering I'd never played the other AC games I'm really enjoying this game. So much so that after playing for a few hours on a 'less than legit' copy (£40 for a game I might not like? Nope) I splashed the cash on the proper version.

How does it work with friends doing the Kenway's Fleet stuff? I'm assuming I need some uplay friends? I'm been capping ships like a mofo and doing trade runs on my phone while at work.

Environment quality has the biggest impact on performance for me. Try setting it to low and see if you can live with less vegetation (you'll lose some grass and bushes), but should notice a considerable boost. I'm not sure if the vsync issue has been fixed yet, but if you have vsync enabled, try loading the game, ctrl-alt-del to desktop, and then go back into the game - your frame rate should be considerably more stable. For me it was the difference between frame rates occasionally dropping to 30 rather than occasional dropping to the mid 50s and was night and day.

Thank you for the tip. I set environment to low, god rays low, shadow quality high (not soft shadows) and tried ctrl+alt+del back into game but still have abysmal frame rate (drops to 26fps briefly). It looks like I am going to have to wait for a GFX driver update or a game patch. The game doesn't seem to use half of the available resources, its very strange.

Thank you for your quick reply! I fiddled with a few settings but cant remember which ones now. What AA settings would suggest in combination with lower environment quality? Also would you know if crossfire is supported yet as I have not seen a profile for it?

Really appreciate your help!

I am using 4xEQAA. Seems to be the max AA setting without a massive drop in fps. Everything else on maximum except for motion blur at 1080p. Environment quality has the biggest performance hit (mainly CPU).

Crossfire seems to work fine, but AMD don't seem to have released an optimised driver for this game yet :(

How is your 7990 in other games? Might be worth posting in our 7990 thread.

My 7990 performed very well in the likes of Tombraider, Xcom enemy unknown, Witcher 2, Crysis 3, Dirt show down all maxed (I know a lot of these are AMD optimized and not the latest games). The funny thing is I also have completely random frame drops in Far cry 3, and Splinter cell blacklist seems to work very well then out of nowhere crashes to desktop with the message "referenced memory could not be read" so basically I only have issues with Ubisoft games? I'm running windows 8.1, which might have something to with it.

Can you imagine how awesome this game would be if you had drop in/drop out multiplayer like borderlands?

Just join your friends game as a 3rd party ship (obviously the host would be the only Kenway, you'd be a random but with your own ship) and team up to take down better targets.

A full pirate-y game with that would be awesome.

Basically needs to be Borderlands-Pirates.

Co-op to take down legendary ships/fleets.
Side missions to gain loot and ship upgrades

At a bit of a loss at the moment. Got to a certain point in the game, after the video, the games goes to a load up screen and then I get a Windows message telling AC4BFSP, exe has stopped working. Have re-tryed 4 times and it crashes at the exact same spot every time. Even tried another full install and it still happens. Had a different problem the other day, where by you start the game, screen goes black and then goes to desktop, the game is still open, but wont load. So I removed Nvidia Ntune audio driver from program features and it worked.
Anyone know what is causing my exe to fail.

How are you all getting on defeating the legendary ships? Even with the Jackdoor fully upgraded I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to sink the 'El Impoluto':(

I didn't find them too difficult other than the one where you had to fight 2 at the same time. The armoured one was slow enough that I could just fly past it and broadside it in the rear before it had enough time to retaliate.

The other ships I just fought conventionally(I was fully upgraded at that point) by mortaring where I could and avoiding broadsides. It seems like I might have had a lot easier doing what lunarwolf did. Bit too late for that now though :D

It seems I can exit the memory and continue playing other parts of the game. But every time I go back to start the mission, the exe stops working. The trouble is, the part of the game I am stuck at is sequence 12, Pinos Island and because the exe, keeps stopping, I can`t progress any further.
Anyone know of a work around?

forgot to say that when fighting the 2 ships. don't kill the 1st one if the second has full health. to be clearer take 1st ship's health down as much as possible without killing it, then kill 2nd ship. once 2nd ship is done finish 1st ship. this method makes it a lot easier

I spent the weekend accumulating all the Elite upgrades to the Jackdaw whilst screaming thanks to sodding Moray Eels popping out of nowhere underwater.

I then tried to take on a legendary in the top left of the map (iirc). Got it down to half health by ramming him from the rear constantly (:D) but then messed up after that and ended up alongside it...you can guess how well it went after that :)

I am saddened at how useless your pirate 'village/manor' area is though compared to past home city efforts. I've pretty much reached endgame now having amassed a full fleet, almost maxxed out the Jackdaw and have just 1 more key left in order to obtain the templar armour.

I took out the 2 legendary ships pretty easily, but I was about level 40 myself and had all upgrades apart from the final mortar and broadside.. My tactic is to mortar as much as possible, keep out of the way of their mortar, and then move in for some side shot and broadside. They both went down fast and I didnt get the chance to board. but I was down to less than 1/3 heath on the jackdaw.

can you even board those legendary ships?

How do you check your level? I'm only on Sequence 5 Mem 2 and have barely touched the Assassins quests etc but I've got a full fleet, 9999 gemstones and all upgrades except the ones you need the blueprints for. I just love boarding them ships. :D

Edit: I took down that legendary ghost ship too but it went straight to the bottom, no option to board :(
