Assassin’s Creed Origins

Is that a new bug a patch introduced? I played this evening for first time in a few weeks and still seems as smooth as butter (or as much as can be), or happen in specific places?

Seperately am impressed, saw lots of little changes such as on the map with filters and what not. Hope Far Cry 5 gets half the support this does.
4K max gfx is still a stuttering mess what res you on?

3440 x 1440 @ 100hz. At this resolution for most the part one thread is near 100% as is the GPU. I would have thought trying to max everything at 4k may be leading to drops given its even more GPU heavy then my res (in terms of pixel count).

Not after the latest patch its dropped a lot on both but still has the annoying stutters. I have 24 core Threadripper 1920X & KFA2 HOF GTX1080 LOL its not the CPU or GPU! Windows 7 x64 is smooth though it seems to be related to Win 10 x64.

I would hazard a guess that what you're seeing is problems with cache misses. Isn't there some software for Threadripper that can limit the number of cores presented to an application? I would give that a try.

I would check you per core utilisation tbh, while your cpu has loads of cores, usually one will be getting hammered the most I expect if it's anything like how my cpus behave. I would also tweak your graphical settings from everything maxed. With a 1080ti maxed or two, I find even that is demanding at 3440x1440 under water holding a constant boost settings maxed. Imagine trying to max at 4k with a 1080 will be even harder. Some settings just seem to tank fps.

Nothing to do with the CPU or GPU settings its all because the game engine struggles @4K with HDR & max settings. I found a partial solution though let the game decide when to alter AA settings on the fly seems to make it smoother.

There must be something I am missing here. You're only running a 1080, of course that's why it's struggling at 4k max settings.

Really, really impressed with this game. I spent the last few evenings playing it with a friend and we both had a blast doing sidequests and exploring the amazing map. It's hard to not be impressed with the scale and looks of it, I'm around 60h in and still discovering new places/quests.

You're gonna get totally different answers.

Different opinions etc etc...

There is no "yes" it's better and "no" it's not.

In my opinion I like the Witcher more, but this is a different game.

Is this better than the Witcher 3?

They are similar, yet different. Im not sure which one I would say is better. I prefer the ancient egypt setting and tbh, I struggle to play Witcher 3 for length now because Im spoiled by the freedom of movement in AC Origins compared to Witcher 3, but both have their place in a game collection.

Hard to compare, really. Witcher 3's plot was weak and ploddy IMO for supposedly the best RPG ever and the combat/animations/movement were rather poor.
Graphics were very uneven.

On the other hand, the world was nice and some sidequests were great. Gwent was pretty addictive. Also, the expansions were meaty and had interesting storylines. You could also choose your dialogue options to change the outcome of certain events, which you can't do in Origins.

Origins has a more impressive, vivid world that feels alive. The cities, landscapes and details kill Witcher. Question marks are better and more varied, you can find lots of amazing places, tombs, camps etc. with their own little stories told through old manuscripts. The mechanics, horse riding etc. are better and you can climb everywhere which makes the world feel even more massive.

Overall, world, gameplay, movement and graphics go to Origins. The rest is preference, as the combat can be a mixed bag and the story isn't anything amazing, especially that W3 gives you dialogue choices and has better side quests (I think). Nonetheless, sidequests in Origins are still very fun and meaty, they fit the game pretty well.

I prefer Origins overall, because I find the setting and movement to be more engaging and open. Ancient Egypt just feels fresher and more unique than your typical medieval RPG setting.

Absolutely this. I prefer Origins personally. I was bored of the witcher by the time I was 80 hours in. With Origins I am desperate for more content.
