Assetto Corsa Competizione

Just picked this up, its only £9.99 at cdkeys at the mo.

Good price, im tempted but I dont like the graphic damage model, I mean I know the car has ultra realistic damage to it, but if I wreck and I normally do.. I want parts flying off in a realistic fashion (not OTT like Wreckfest) but you know fully crumpled bonnets, missing wings, wheels ripping off etc

The bonnet wiggles up and down, what more do you want? :p

It gets easier, grats on busting up those numbers.

Thanks for the pointers :)

Good to see your getting there but be careful about comparing times in random practice or race sessions where temp and track conditions can have a big influence on lap time. Best place to see where you stack up is in the special events where conditions are fixed. If you pick one of the hotlap events they have the most participation so will give you the most accurate picture of how you stack up. My target is always to get within 102% of the fastest time. The Aston GT3 at Oulton Park is one currently running and a good combo.

In terms of going quickly, I'm only a little above average, you need to concentrate on line and braking. For the former go round the track slowly and see which curbs you can attack and which you need to take care of, more true in mid/rear engine cars, and explore the track limits. On some tracks like Misano you can get away with murder while on the new British GT tracks the limits are much stricter. For braking its all about controlling the weight transfer of the car and managing the available grip front to rear. Absolutely critical in the Porsche, which is what I drive 99% of the time. You can get into the brakes hard and use the downshifts to help with engine braking but a smooth gradual release off the brakes to avoid suddenly provoking understeer is the most important part IMO.

Of course, I'm only competing with myself at the moment but it's still helpful to gauge my times in relatively ideal conditions vs track records to see just how **** I am.

Yeah the smooth release of the brake pressure definitely had an impact... initially I was focusing on just braking earlier and more gently but I have found an initial hard brake followed by slowly letting off can also gain much the same effect. Cheers for the advice, I'll check out the special events too as I haven't really ventured into that part of the game.

Definitely lots of practice required to get consistent, while my times have improved to just mildly embarrassing rather than a total joke, I find it more challenging to get through a 20 minute race without slightly overcooking it and doing something that spins me out and ruins the whole race. I'm enjoying it though, not that the swearing as I stack a race 2 minutes from the end would have you believe it!

just done literally a couple laps in the Lexus with a conscious effort to brake earlier and already clocked a 129.364 so it holds promise!

Time to put some more practise in, thanks for the pointer

edit - 128.200.... we’re on the way!

edit - 127.225... 126.993 in Zee Ferrari which I think I’m preferring the feel of to the Aston or the Lexus.
Change the in-game time to early morning and ambient temp to 10c and you'll find another second or two ;)

There's a lot to know about setup too that isn't in the game. I've prattled on about it a lot in here but you need to get the tire pressures right otherwise you'll bleed time (27.3 - 27.8 PSI on 2020 tires and I think the 2019 tires can handle up to 30PSI). The 2020 tires fall off quickly when you get them out of that range.

The Ferrari 488 Evo is a really nice car. It can be a little slippery but you can really push it hard and it's pretty good for overtaking. I've started using the Aston a lot more (so has everyone else by the looks of online lobbies and leagues) and it is so difficult to overtake with. The gearing and turbo lag make it impossible to get a run on people out of turns (just try it at Monza :D ). It's incredibly quick to hot lap in but terrible for trying to make your way through the pack. You end up having to make stupid divebombs like this - https://streamable.com/zco66o . I'd been following that Merc for about 30 mins and was easily 1-1.5s/lap faster but his corner exit out of the final turn was always better than mine, even when he screwed it up. Oh and the 26PSI tires + 2 slow punctures didn't help either, as you can probably tell lol

Just recently jumped into this again. Bought it ages ago but didn't like the handling over AC. I've now tweaked some settings and it's a lot better.
I see there's a few addon packs available now. I'll probably get them all eventually, but what's the most essential pack to start with?

@humanlaptop :D

I'm the same, I like to see my cars wreck!

I'm sounding rather ghoulish but latest sims don't really show damage anymore. Raceroom is a let down, damage is shown via some icons or a little ding. Whereas early Simbin and Papyrus titles were pretty good on the damage front. Automobilista has decent effects.

Not sure if its a licencing thing as the likes of Ferrari, Porsche don't really like to advertise cars being destroyed or catching fire! Wreckfest whilst a little over the top, it does look spectacular seeing a car rolling end over the armco. :p

Is there a way to turn off the annoying head bobbing or G-Force effect? When I return to garage, the option is greyed out. I cannot fathom for the life of me, where this option is to turn off.

Exactly that and I think you are right, it has to be licensing.

I mean I used to love watching NASCAR and they would tape up parts of the bodywork to keep racing. I loved that sort of thing and would have hoped we had a similar damage model these days.

As silly a comparison as it is, if we had GTA cars and damage graphics on top of a sim engine then it would be amazing for a racer.

The one with the Imola track as Imola is ace!

I'm getting really into this game now. As of two weeks ago I have finally changed to cockpit view (with correct FOV settings). This is having been using the bumper cam in every single racing game since PS1 ridge racer so it's taken some getting used to!

Good shout, Imola's a great track.

In other news, I adjusted my wheel and pedal positions over the weekend and it's made such a difference.
In fact, I won my first ever online race last night :) Granted, it was on a beginner server but I'm very pleased :D

Yeah it's so so good. Just wish the browser was better and the online etiquette as well.

The browser is definitely due some tweaks, it's dreadful. But the game is so good.

Second that about the online racing, everyone seems to just want to ram you off, especially if you do accidently knock someone like I did the other night the person came after me the rest of the race. I've been joining the simgrid races as they are a lot better everyone keeps to racing.

You'll have hit and miss days online. One day you'll be loving every minute of it, the next is nothing but curses.

For me they should meaningfully tie the SA rating in to the yellow flags with a 10 point hit, or give stop and go's and black flag repeat offenders. You could be gracious and only have that on above 50 SA rated servers.

Apart from people just buggering up the braking point and intentional idiots, most grief comes about with people steaming through on yellows. The server browser doesn't bother me so much, i accept their reasoning. A friends system would be totally awesome though, so you can tag those people that give you the great races. When you come off a storming race/duel there's always respect all round, sadly you forget who those people are the next day.

Yeah it's usually quite full I try to go for tracks I know like isolated, brands hatch etc but they fill quickly in the local servers I usually join the race in the afternoon for the 8pm starts

Congratulations - I'm yet the reach the heights of a first place finish yet!!

This is the best driving game I've ever played in my life.

it is a great game but best nah the original has better tarmac physics also try automoblista 2. AC2 is nice but the understeer on many cars kinda mars it. tarmac isnt easy to get right though cant remember many games nailing it.

I've only raced in 2 league races and neither of gone well :(

First at Brands, qualified 16th but there were only like 18 GT3 cars, the rest were GT4. It started to rain. Never changed tyres before mid race - or at least never changed to wets. Didn't know how to change and ended up 5/6 laps down and gave up.

Second at Silverstone, qualified towards the back of the GT3 field, started well but got punted from behind at the little chicane and got beached on the red hump thingy. Joy, had to return to garage. 3 laps down but finished the race passing all the GT3 cars.

It's Donnington this weekend. No doubt I'll be near the back again, I'm a tad outside the 1.28s in the Aston. Hoping for a clear run this time round.

The joys :D
