Assetto Corsa EVO jan 2025

Just bought this, not as bad as I expected, runs ok with 1 car anyway, it just doesn’t seem to be bringing anything new to the table.
Seems a very odd choice of direction.
I don’t think I’ll refund it, but it isn’t adding anything so far.

Actually, I may get a refund, it seems a pointless game.
That's been my thoughts since it was announced. AC already had great physics, a ton of content, great VR performance etc. They have no chance of competing with iracing's online hub.

Graphics are weird, modern graphics are deep into diminishing returns or something - from '95 to 2005 - MASSIVE change. From 2005 to 2015, big change, ps2 to modern. But from 2015 to 2025? IDK.

With this stuff said, the laps I ran yesterday felt great, there's always room for great physics in simracing, and if they want to be some kind of PC gran turismo 7 with top tier physics, that could be a thing.

I will rebuy it if they fix the VR. I popped everything to min and I didn't check, but I know I wasn't hitting 71 fps and it was ugly as hell while failing.

And the game is not really an always online game. Because you can still play the game in offline mode
Just with most of the content locked away from you. Good old technicalities. Kunos are great, aren't they? :|

People sweeping the content lock under the rug, is baffling to me. This is a clear indication of what they want this game to be.
I didn't buy GT7, and got rid of all Sony stuff because of it. I'm not buying this now.

I actually refunded it. Wasn't expecting greatness on day 1 EA, but I did expect them to have done a bit more in certain areas before chucking it out there.
Maybe I'll get it again at some point, depending on performance improvements, content and the modding situation - will the always online thing also serve as a way to keep that locked down?

The whole GT/Forza approach with grinding creds and buying cars never appealed to me anyway.

I've personally wanted gt7 or similar to be on pc but with ac/iracing/r factor type of realism and physics

I've not played GT7 and do not know how it's designed to expire, but I wouldn't mind a GT6 - a game that wouldn't turn into a Cindirella's pumpkin whenever its publisher decided to pull the "always online" plug. GT6-like AC Evo could live in my Steam collection, but TheCrew-like AC Evo may rot in hell. I'll wait with refunding just yet, but will wait for further clarifications from Kunos. The refund window is 2 weeks, right?

Yeah i finally fired it up and its pretty much what I was expecting although I was expecting more in the graphics department. It runs ok on my triple screen 1440p setup with a 4080/5800x3d, there are a few niggles for me though. When I jump into a driving session I only see a black screen and only when I go into the 3 screen menu and jump back I can actually see anything.... weird. There is some sort of weird 3d birds lol They are very juttery and I can't work out how to turn them off.

The person who designed the UI needs their head checked lol.

In all though I think it has decent backbone for a driving sim at some point but I dont think it will reach that point for another 2 years.

Switched to my monitor to ease the pain of getting things setup. Just run a couple of quick tests at Imola in the Porsche Cup car to test performance.

4K max settings 8x MSAA:
Solo practice during the day in clear conditions. 50-60 FPS and just under 16GB VRAM usage reported by Afterburner
Race during the day in clear conditions with 27 AI. As low as 25 FPS at the start getting back up to 50 FPS by the end of the first lap, just over 18GB VRAM usage.

Graphics are OK but nothing special, still noticed plenty of pop in amongst the trees/foliage and on distant hill side objects. Rear view mirror resolution is very low. Looks decent in replays. Sound, nothing remarkable - ACC sounds better. FFB will need some playing around as it felt pretty dead. I'll give it a quick go in VR over the weekend then do my best to forget about it until there have been some substantial updates. Game was still in offline mode for me so some of the advertised features still unavailable.

One of my pet hates in driving sims, it's not as bad as I feared it might be though. I think Imola has the worst example with all the brake markers on the fence etc popping into view as you approach T1
The pop in / texture crawl is so bad in ACC I stopped playing it. I hope it isn't that bad.

ACC used deferred rendering which typically causes these types of issues. I believe ACE has gone back to using forward rendering like the original AC and thus things look cleaner for the most part, still not perfect though. We will probably have to wait a couple of years for people to mod the game files and increase the LOD/draw distance etc as they did for AC1 with the CSP project.

Just installed this.
Yep, the VR performance is far from good. Right now I'd put it behind the visuals in the old version, as the frame rate really is poor, despite the visuals being no great shakes. Being fair, it's still crap in FS2024.
I really like the old Assetto, so happy to give the devs some spondoolies as they give me some confidence that it'll get resolved.
