sub 7 min?! damn.... I may as well give up now haha! good running!
One of the unwritten benchmarks was to make it to under 8 minutes in Grand Prix Legends (the actual benchmark (the times recorded by the developers) was an 8:21) and it took a few years to make it down that far. Looking at GPLRank, my first submitted time was an 8:03 (but I'd been playing for a couple of years before that - something tells me that when I started my first error-free lap was an 8:46) and I got down to a 7:54 4 years later! You don't just turn up and put in laps at the Nurburgring and suddenly get to a peak - you'll reach a comfortable level, then if you want to push yourself, you'll bang on for years to get to level you feel you can't improve beyond (you will still improve, but it'll be very incremental from there on in). The world record is a 7:43....
The trick to learning the 'Schleife is to break it down into sectors, even just mentally. There are very distinct sections and if you approach it gradually rather than taking a big leap and have everything go past in a blur, you'll learn the characteristics of each of those sections and be able to start putting laps in.
It's a beautiful feeling when you've stitched it all together and put in a solid lap at the Nordschleife.
