Assetto Corsa

sub 7 min?! damn.... I may as well give up now haha! :D good running!

One of the unwritten benchmarks was to make it to under 8 minutes in Grand Prix Legends (the actual benchmark (the times recorded by the developers) was an 8:21) and it took a few years to make it down that far. Looking at GPLRank, my first submitted time was an 8:03 (but I'd been playing for a couple of years before that - something tells me that when I started my first error-free lap was an 8:46) and I got down to a 7:54 4 years later! You don't just turn up and put in laps at the Nurburgring and suddenly get to a peak - you'll reach a comfortable level, then if you want to push yourself, you'll bang on for years to get to level you feel you can't improve beyond (you will still improve, but it'll be very incremental from there on in). The world record is a 7:43....

The trick to learning the 'Schleife is to break it down into sectors, even just mentally. There are very distinct sections and if you approach it gradually rather than taking a big leap and have everything go past in a blur, you'll learn the characteristics of each of those sections and be able to start putting laps in.

It's a beautiful feeling when you've stitched it all together and put in a solid lap at the Nordschleife.

The AI on this game is really starting to **** me off. It's like the refuse to move off the racing line and won't slow down when you brake in front of them, they just plough in to the back/side of you.

I used to beast the ring on Need for Speed Shift on the ps3 :D but i think I sold that game about 3 or so years ago so not had much practice.

plenty of observation watching the ring tourist crash compilations on YT though so I recognise some of the corners in that.

will just take time as I'm braking too much for fast corners/bends and not enough for the sharper ones :p ....time......in time....

They did say they wanted to make a Gran Turismo game for the PC, so maybe they are imitating the AI behaviour in GT.

I'm probably going to drop to a less 'harsh' car to learn the track a little.

It's hard to recall the track when I spend 80% of it backwards :D Amazing feeling driving the cars though, even with the PS3 controller it feels extremely satisfying when you get a section 'right'.

puss :p

on a slight side note but somewhat related, thinking about a less 'harsh' car, I wonder if anyone has ever gone around the ring in a mobility scooter xD ok so the normal ones would probably take you hours xD but what about the ones with little bike engines in xD.... now that would be a sight to see!

I managed a 7:52:528 in a Ferrari 312T on the Nordschleife during a 40 minute run, though I've only dabbled with the track in the past (rfactor/GTR2) I did recall big chunks of it which helped. Using my Razor Sabertooth as I've no way to set up my T500SR and do it justice the PC desk will not do it. So it just sits and wait like most of the 18 months I've owned it. lol. Like others have said it's still a very immersive experience with just a pad for control.

I went so far with my install as to move out all the cars except for the 312T and kept a few grand prix tracks for play, also kept Nordschleife for solo runs. I've also tweaked my video settings getting shot of the motion blur and reducing the colour saturation a little further. Have the frames limited to 60FPS with V-Sync on and everything feels and looks silky smooth the rendering app shows a constant 60FPS too.

A couple of revised screenshots, as stated I run just the 312T and then have 11 custom skins/helmets for a more authentic race feel.

Sounds just like multiplayer to me if thats the case they have done a fantastic job on the AI :p

previous page ;) but ...

http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/nürburgring-nordschleife.2270/update?update=3823

open the .zip and take the main folder from there and dump it in \...wherever steam is\steamapps\common\assettacorsa\content\tracks\

then should be in your list of tracks when you go to pick :)

I have done this but get a track loading error when I go to the select track page. It shows no tracks at all, not even the default ones!?!

I do have my games installed on a different drive to where steam is located so the steamapps\common\..... folder is on a different drive if that makes a difference?
Any ideas guys?

hummm that's curious..... so where is your game installed? because I think the steamapps\common is where pretty much all the games files are...

there is a similar folder in mydocuments\asettocorsa\content\tracks\...

I did put it in there initially by mistake... it did show up on the track list but it would fail when I tried to play it saying "track not found" or some rubbish.

might be worth doing a verify cache and try dumping it into steamapps/where ever you installed it, again.

can always have a nosey on teamviewer later if you get no luck :)

as for pricing. seen it on g2play for just under £20 so imagine that the ball park going rate from key sites :) (or possibly the only site as greenman/simply/cjs don't list it? )

Went and put the Lotus 49 models back in the game for bit of a change. Kamikaze a.i. make for a challenge during the opening couple of bends at Monza 66 but after that I can work between them more easily. Not to say it's plain sailing, anything but, it's rewarding to throw these cars about and get it right.
