Assetto Corsa

So jumped on this tonight after a big update, guess I missed the career mode being added sometime inbetween!

Anyway it made me clear my settings when booting it up. I jacked everything to max and recorded 1FPS lol (set limit at 120 and used to hit this 99% if the time). I set everything back down to High and went back to 120fps.

So I'm guessing one of the options is killing me, anyone here know which one it might be?

I had reflections on High but Static. Moving the slider up to even 'Very Low' killed it. So, either I need to leave it at static or play a balancing act between those two.

Everything else is on Ultra, except shadows and reflections which are on High, and I get 105fps now on hot lap.

If anyone runs a second screen or doesn't mind using a tablet etc, check this out: http://www.simracing-tools.de/simtools/index.php/en/dashboard/about-dashboard
It has some very useful features.
Also check out the style gallery. I can recommend the Assetto style.

Don't forget to run it as admin.

Oh, and the map recorder is very useful for those downloaded tracks that don't have a track map.

What is the lag / latency like with the dashboard? I take it it is not quick enough to show RPM but is useful for comparing laptimes, damage etc?

Minimal lag. No more than you'd get with any other dashboard running via your network afaik.
All I've used it for so far (with the Assetto style dash) is to monitor tyre temps/lap times and track layout when learning a couple of downloaded tracks.

I did run the well regarded SLI max on my phone a while ago, but it was a bloody pain to set up and could sometimes forget that I had a license (that you pay for), so I left it... Fwiw, I don't feel that this is any slower or faster than that.

There are quite a few different styles of dash to choose from that offer different things to monitor and interact with tbh.
You can even use it to make your own virtual button 'box'.
The AC dash, for example looks like this (and would display the track layout/info, showing my position on it as I drive around if I had AC running):

I'd say to just try it and see what you think :) Have a look at the styles gallery and pick whatever takes your fancy, though some of them aren't the prettiest, I'll admit... Useful though.

I'm sure we will see plenty of smoke mods, its one thing that is iterated to death in sims :)

Off to play the career, I've made it to Alfa events so far:) Really liking the career too.

I finally got both my cards working at 90% with a full grid woo hoo.

Set Supersamping to be forced in CCC, in game 4xAA and 16xAF now getting maximum usage :) so happy. I'm wondering if it had anything to do with that stupid position gui right down the bottom of the screen. F9 that sucker asap lol

Just finished the Career tier 2 race with my BMW E30 (S1 tune with E46 engine I believe) against much more powerful modern beemers (there like 100-150 bhp difference!) and wow E30 just ripped them to shreds on corners! What a cornering machine- light, agile. Z4s and E92 pull away on the straights like no tomorrow, but come braking and driving through curves, they get absolutely slaughtered :)

Never had gameplay like this in GT or Forza " buy more power/tune to win" games, fantastico :)

What a car!

Yeah, you gotta get rid of position thing at the bottom, as well as most other apps. The 'essentials' app doesn't take away too many fps though, so you can usually leave that on.

With a couple of 290's, I've found that I can get 90-100% usage with high fps running 4-8x supersampling, but you have to turn reflections off completely or fps will tank to silly low levels or you get flickering depending on whether it's set to static or not.
Thing is, I don't really see much difference in visual quality with supersampling on this and am happy with single card performance using medium-high reflections/frequency tbh (at 1080p at least). Not sure what you get on a single 7950 though.

Is it me or is this game insanely difficult playing it on a pad? I don't mean difficult to handle I mean the AI is too good. Either that, or my accelerate doesn't work fully on my PS4 pad.

When I used to play this on my G27 I could win races easily, now I'm finding it difficult not to finish last!

You can always use the pedal app to see if your pad has full range accelerator axis ;) I think xbox pad would be better though as it has longer travel triggers.

Career is fuly moddable, so you could set AI level lower quite easily see this thread http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/creating-your-own-career-step-by-step.16833/

With a steering wheel it is "good family fun" as Kunos themselves have called it :) - not too easy, not too hard. I'm below average online, but got all golds so far into tier 2 with a few restarts only (mostly on time trial events). I may adjust increase AI difficulty later, but right now I really enjoy it as is.

I've actually got ultra on everything but all the reflections set to high with low smoke. Getting 60fps is easy now, not fussed about anything else and game seems really smooth. However at times watching the replay, frames drop a touch so might try medium reflection settings instead with maybe high shadows
