Assetto Corsa

Right, selected "default" in the drop down of shaders etc

How's that? BMW 1M (something)

Redownloaded the game now to clear out third party mods, shaders etc that may effect anything.

Looks good I think.
Couple more from me, really like the new FXAA and reflections shaders that seem to have tamed a lot of the problems with moire on radiator grills and chrome details.

(High/med settings, FXAA on)

Grabbed the latest DLC last night for a blast in that Gallardo - what a bonkers car :D The straight line performance just makes it feel like it has no grip and terrible brakes! Even worse than the LaFerrari does! Good fun though :)

Finally got around to checking out DP3 last night, well the Lotus 25 at any rate. Wow, that car around Brands GP is heavenly :D My heel and toe needs a little work, keep flunking the 3>2 downshift, but the way you have to coax the car into the corner, constantly making little corrections (sometimes big ones) is beautiful.

So best racer on the PC currently? Most realistic?

"The Big Three" current/modern realistic driving sims are AC, rFactor2 and iRacing. I personally prefer AC for its plethora of street cars (the other sims are almost exclusively about race contraptions), laserscanned tracks and better graphics.

All other "sims" are just that - "sims", with poorer tyre modelling, worse FFB and/or overpowered stability control.

I have this and PCARS and this is more realistic but I think PCARS has the slightly better graphics and more polished/complete.

I've had to abandon pCars it's just not stable enough.
It takes me an hour on average to even get it started, track files keep corrupting for some reason.

Ordered a T300 RS yesterday. Had £115 worth of vouchers from work, and I sold my DFGT for £30 so it cost me £57 in total :)

I wanted the T300 Integral bundle but nobody in the UK sells it. Couldn't really argue with £57 for essentially the same thing (minus the T3PA pedals). Since I paid so little for the wheel and I still need a decent set of pedals, I may just bite the bullet and order the Fanatec Clubsport V3s and be done with it.

Waiting for Wheelstand Pro to reply to my email about compatibility for the T300 RS and Clubsport V3s before I make a decision.

Hi all,

What's the current state of this game. Currently thinking about bagging it as its going cheap on Steam?

How does it compare to its rivals?

Bit of a vague question tbh.

It really depends on what you're looking for in a driving sim.

Just taking in some of the earlier responses.

What am I looking for. An alternative to project cars. A title that I enjoy. However, I want to try something else.

Ove been watching others play this (via YouTube) and IR for about a year now. And for some reason I'm being drawn to AC.

I just want to know whether this title has any major issues that I should be aware of.

No major issues at all.

If you're using a wheel, you'll find it feels a lot better than pCars.
It's a good looking game, but not as nice looking as pCars with it's lighting/weather.

AI?
I don't race AI, so someone else will have to advise on that.

Content?
Out of the box, pCars has the advantage, but there's a lot of good 3rd party content as well as the official DLC packs for AC that tip the balance in it's favour.

Online?
Netcode is very good after the last update.
You'll usually find a decent standard of driving, though being public servers, there will always be the odd nob.
There a few servers running a system called Minorating, which helps to address this and usually attracts clean drivers.
If you want to regularly race with clean drivers, then a league is your best bet. Some are more serious than others.

Compared to iRacing, I'll have to go on what I've read, as I haven't got round to trying it yet.
iRacing has the best online system (as it should for a subscription based sim).
You do have to pay for pretty much everything (tracks/cars) and it does add up, but it depends on how much you want at once I suppose.
I hear that AC has it beat for FFB fwiw, but I couldn't personally say one way or the other.
