Assetto Corsa

Is anyone using an Xbox 360 wheel. I'm finding it massively over sensitive (i.e tiny movement goes lock 2 lock). I've had no luck playing around with the basic controller settings.

Don't fancy reading through 19 pages of discussion. Could anyone break it down for me and tell me the good/bad things about the game? I massively miss my racing games and am going to get back into them and get a wheel etc. So wondering what this game is like?

Good? The handling and FFB effects are excellent.

The bad? No multiplayer just yet. No career mode. Just hot-lapping at the moment. It's early access after all.

If you do get the game download the live timing app from here to compare how you're doing with others

similar to pjcars if you played that but handling is better in this similar graphics lots of options that are simple to set up. good wheel support.

at the moment the car games to get are pjcars or this. id go for this and i own both.

Just a few personal thoughts:

Good things about the game:

-It has a great tyre model.
-The force feedback is well implemented.
-The code seems to be well optimised.
-The graphics are good (but not outstanding).
-It's a lot of fun to drive (the most important aspect).

Decent

-The UI is reasonably slick and intuative.
-The sound is solid.
-Some fairly varied challenges are included.
-It includes drag racing and drifting - if you fancy a bash at that.

The 'bad'

-People have reported the sense of speed isn't as great as some games/sims (not my view).
-Multiplayer and AI not yet implemented / proven (not bad per se but definitely an unknown quantity).
-Many consider it to have a relatively small amount of content (I think it's a case of quality over quantity though).

There is also a career mode to be implemented at a later date. The overall experience is greater than the sum of its constituent parts and, in my opinion, definitely scratches the sim itch rather well.

If you like rFactor, GTR2 and any of the Simbin titles, Live for speed, iRacing etc, there's a good chance you will really like this sim.

Edit: ~>Dg<~ compares this to Project CARS. I have both also and agree that this is better (as things stand at the moment).

Thanks for the replies guys! Really like the sound of the game. Looking to get either a G27 or Thrust master and great back into racing. Drifting is a massive bonus for me, its always enjoyed multiplayer drifting/racing. Only downside reading is no multiplayer YET. That app seems really good comparing times etc. Will be purchasing the game :)

Did you try playing with gamma settings for the wheel in game options?

The good: graphics, great choice of cars (ferrari, bmw, mclaren, pagani, lotus, merc, etc), including road cars (F40, F458, M3s, Mp4 etc), GTs and 1 open wheeler.

Laser scanned tracks- which means road is not mirror like flat, but has bumps where real tracks have bumps.
Physics, despite being unfinished, already among the very best out there.

The bad: its not finished.

Just hot-lapping at the moment. It's early access after all.

I dont care about hot laaping, I just throw cars around Chris harris style - great, great fun!

Drifting is well catered for, there is a a Motorland SP drift track from Aomori, Japan in AC and several drift tuned cars (although any car can drift, physics are the same for all)

Nice to see even drifting is being catered for! Game is currently 10% off on Steam, do I buy it now or wait until 2nd of January to see if it drops in price anymore?

It may be worth answering the question a different way (particularly if you have time off at the moment to enjoy it); will I mind if the game drops in price given I could buy it and enjoy it now?

It's a tough call ... I know what I'd do ;)

Not mine unfortunately :( They were run at 4K res with downsampling. Although I do use SGSS, yes and it does look good, but not quite THIS good ) I dont have an eye for photography though (I always tend to find the most boring angle etc :)) so rarely share own screens :)

Yeah think I'll buy it now :P, those screenshots were amazing. Now I know multiplayer isn't out yet but generally what is the community like? Is there active forums etc? I personally love a game where there is a great community, people chatting etc

Well, bought a wheel.

Being a racing game, it's questionable how much time I will sink into it, as I tend to have a short attention span, but quite looking forward to watching it develop.

This will be my only racing game. Couple laps in f40 just on 360 controller was enough for me to know I liked the presentation and handling.

Now just to get it. Looking super sexy...
