Assetto Corsa

Ok, it seems that xfire is buggered up now.
Setting it to 'optimize 1x1' in CCC had previously sorted it out nicely, but now it makes sod all difference in fps (sort of... Some places a bit higher and some places a bit lower than single card) and I believe that xfire implementation may well be the source of the freeze/crash issue.

Also, I'm not entirely sure that overriding AA settings in CCC actually does anything.

Does anyone find the AI just give up?

I had a 7 car KTM race at Imola with the AI on 96% and would spend the good part of a lap catching the car ahead up which was fun they were almost as fast as me.

But then I found that when I get within a few meters of the car I was chasing they just give up, brake and let you past and end up being a spec in mirror mirror that never ever challengers you again, kinda boring.....

Bumpy road, suspension and active aero :)

Yes, the AI giving up happens a lot. I ran that race last night and it's a fantastic combination. The AI has real potential to be fun to race with and I'm sure this issue will be addressed soon.

That McLaren fig could so easily be real life. Looks so real :D
Not played this since the patch, will be interesting seeing how different it feels with the changes to the collision physics.

Racing the AI feels much better I think. The first corner/lap can still be a bit messy but the AI for most cars is much improved. I'm definitely having more fun / challenge and less frustration.

All cars are unlocked for AI racing in the latest patch - there have actually 2 mini patches released since 0.6 so it's now on 0.6.2

The original 0.6 had a lot of issues where vehicles would flip and start driving submerged in the terrain and also a lot of odd wall/barrier collisions where you could get stuck.

It's definitely moving in the right direction.

New update out again

0.6.2
- Improved collisions detection & AI response
- Cpu warning is the same for all the languages
- Fixed smoke on replay exit
- Drift mode :: minimum bonus seconds
- Difference displayer now display the difference on total time
- some gui fix

love how quick they fix things they must even be working 7 days a week :)

Just bought a CSR wheel, CSP V1's and a wheelstand pro
Haven't used a wheel since I sold my DFGT well over a year ago (had an MS wheel before that) and God help me, I can't friggin wait for these to arrive!

My wallet hates me with a passion, but hey ho :D

Sorry, had to share :)

Hi guys, I finally caved in and got this as it looks superb. I have an old wheel to get going with but would like something decent, only thing is I can't use pedals so am looking for a wheel with proportional paddles for accelerator and brake.
The Fanatec Porsche 911 GT2 Wheel looks about the best bet but I can't see any mention of if the paddles are more than just on/off.
If they are proportional paddles is this the best bet or is anything better without spending a huge amount more?
Thanks

The paddles will be on/off.
There may be other options, but all I can think of is a SteelSeries Simraceway SRW-S1 which obviously won't have FFB.

Cheapest place to buy this, ive found it here... https://cdkeys.com.au/products/Assetto-Corsa.html for £21.38 but will it work?? Thanks.

Should work fine afaik.

Rikk, I don't have any experience of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/SteelSeries-Simraceway-SRW-S1-Steering-Wheel/dp/B006IR6NH8 but I know some people have managed to mount them to G25/G27 wheel mountings so you get stability and FFB. It's a messy and complicated solution though.

I've seen the Thrustmaster RGT mentioned as well, but I'm not sure if you can get hold of one easily.

If all else fails you could always try two joysticks. Sounds stupid, and not very immersive, but I raced that way for a long time back in the early days of sim racing. It's surprising how easily fooled the brain is after a while... as consoles prove with controllers for racing games.

Edit: I've just fired this up for the first time since the update and although I'm not a big car guy, there's something very grinworthy about a race with a mixed grid of very pretty Ferraris. The AI driving is less pretty, but at least I'm getting some nice side views of the cars. :->

Thanks guys, hmmm looks like I'll have to find a PSU for the one I have at the moment, see if it's still working and carry on with that :(

Nice one Uncle Petey. Hope you enjoy it.

I hadn't realised what a great car the Z4 GT3 is. I've just spent an unplanned hour racing a mixed field of Z4s and M3s and -- ignoring the inevitable confusion in the first few hectic corners -- I've been quite impressed by the AI and their overtaking (of me, sadly!) and by the handling of the car. Lots of fun.

I intended to make a quick movie to illustrate, but I kept getting carried away by the driving, by which time the replay had lost the start of the race. :-)

There's still a long way to go with the AI and other features, but it's nice to be reminded how much fun this hobby can be.

Spent a few hours playing this evening. Is it me or do the cars feel much more lively and chuckable since the update? I knew there was the collision changes but I'm finding the cars feel much more connected. Seem to be getting a better turn in and they're just even more fun to drive than before!

Absolutely loving racing around Mugello and Imola in the KTM against a nice mixed grid!

Just finished buying all the necessary components and will be building a new rig soon (R-Pod Mk2). I'll post some pics in here if anyone's interested.

Z4GT3 is a beast and the KTM is great around Imola. Two very fun cars.

AI is very much improved and you can have a good race if you do like everyone says and hang back for the first couple of corners.
