Assetto Corsa

Agree, pCARS look alright but it's very shimmery and jaggedy no matter how much AA or downsampling is applied and it never looks 100% smooth even with full 60 fps . . . AC just looks much more slick in comparison.

jaggies if you use ingame AA sure.

personally I prefer pcars graphics I'm not a huge fan of simplified reality it just looks naff and low budget pc racing sim to me as it's what all the budget sims have done graphics wise in the past

If looking naff and low budget means better perfomance than I get from pCARS then I'l be happy.

well pcars ain't out for about a year and is not optimised at all yet, also most gamers will have newer pc's by then anyway or at least newer graphics cards

you don't develop a game that's going to be out in 2-3years for current pc's or it will look ancient before it's released.

anyway there's room for both games in a pc market with so few serious racing games over the last decade

There is definitely room for both games.

I've got a senior tool pack for pCARS and I will definitely be buying Assetto Corsa after playing the tech preview.

I'll still be playing iRacing too.

I'd put
iracing
pcars (iracing light)

I'd class asseto corsa in its own category or with rfactor2 if it will really be heavily mod friendly and they are types of games that generally wont appeal to the same types of racers apart from the serious simmers who will try just about any racing game you shove in front of them

I forgot about Gran Turismo 6.

And whatever appears on the PS4, GT wise.

What puts me off rFactor 2 is rFactor 1. Great game but too much messing about sometimes and obviously the quality difference in some if the community work.

I think Assetto Corsa will certainly ship as a complete game that's modable, rather than the rFactor game I bought that shipped with practically no content.

I'm pinning my hopes on AC, it just felt good without any messing about.

I have pCars, some weeks I really like it other times it just feels off.
I think it's just the way things get messed around each week.

rF2, loved rF1 but can't get into rF2, the physics are fine and the AI are ok but the graphics really annoy me now.

I think iracing are screwed when this comes out.

No chance

Iracing is popular because of its organised online structure and public matchmaking, asetto corsa has no chance of competing on that front (they aren't even trying to). AC will be the choice of sim for people who like racing against ai and it will also be good for league racing.

Iracing serves a completely different purpose and wi dominate online sim racing market so long as they are the only service offering what they do.

I agree. For online racing iRacing will dominate, purely because they have a huge head start and some kind of official structure, albeit a somewhat flawed one.

But for those of us who prefer to get our kicks offline (the vast majority based on how quiet online sim racing is as a whole), AC is the last remaining stab at the Holy Grail. rF2 needs a few more talented guys working on it, and I worry they may not get enough sales from rF2 to continue, even though it has potential. pCARS is... well, it's pCARS; the first rule of pCARS is you don't talk about pCARS. :-) So that leaves AC as the last man standing.

If the netcode's good, AC might steal some of iRacing's league thunder. And if everything else is good it might distract enough people to put a participation dent into a season at iRacing on release. But otherwise, iRacing is too small and dedicated community (particularly on the oval side) to be affected by anything else very much. Those that love it love it very much indeed, and those that don't aren't racing much anyway, or even active members.

I also tried iRacing on the free trial, Graphics good although not state of the art but in racing it doesn't matter they do the job.

Physics were good but I really don't see much difference in any of them they all feel slightly different but I can't say which are best. I can drive all of them and enjoy them.

The problem for me with iRacing is I could never work out the online interface.
It just took me around in circles, probably too old now to learn new stuff.

On the forums there's never a shortage of people ready to say how simple and elegant the interface is. I think they're smoking something. :-)

Obviously iRacing are trying to provide a comprehensive interface to fairly complex setup, so some complication is always going to be necessary, but I think it's criminal that they don't have a much simpler and clearer interface; especially for those new to the service.

A 'Rookies' tab (or something similar) with a very simple, uncluttered view of what they have access to would make a big difference to the initial experience.
