Assetto Corsa

Try some racing online. You'll learn quick about the lines to take. I'm never at the front, but you find people at your level which make it fun.

The other thing is that the cars are usually drivable without having to change anything.

Managed to get into a few races earlier.

First two at Imola in Formula Abarth. First one I lead after being able to hold out at the first corner, to then find halfway through lap two, that the only car that was keeping up had spun off! Comfy win. The second race I started third and did a dive at the first corner that put me into first, and it gave me another race of being comfortably in the lead with the only guy faster a way back. He got within a few seconds before spinning at the last few corners.

Did a GT race at Monza, and that was much closer. Was second when I got a hard collision at the first Lesmo, which damaged all of the car. I then struggled with pace, allowing the first two to pull away, but I still managed to keep third to the end, with a pair on my tail. A lunge on the final corner caught me out, and I had caught the guy overtaking, but the three of us worked it out and let him go third. Sliding the MP4-GT3 the whole way around Parabolica wasn't fun with two BMW's on the rear. That was for lap three, four and five. :(

Far from polished, but bloody good fun!!

How does the booking system timer work?

If for example I set a booking time of one minute with practising, qualifying and race can random people still join the game? Or will the server stop taking bookings when qualifying or race is only taking place.

Will the booking stop accepting participants after the one minute has expired or a minute after the game has started.

Sorry it's very confusing.

You have to book within the allotted booking time. If you have booked in time you can join at any point during practice and qualifying sessions but Im not sure about a race.

If you didn't book a slot during the booking period, you cannot join at all. The booking system is horrible, grinds the MP experience down and saps the fun out of getting into quick races or dropping in and out of a trackday/practise sessions.

Annoyed by the clumbersome booking system in recently released multiplayer for Assetto Corsa, I wanted to see if something could be done to improve it. I came up with a system that uses prebooked slots and a specially prepared client to join those slots at any time.

Experimental version for AC early access v0.9.10 is available here. It requires the client to install a modified online interface module and a server to be running a special version. See the readme there for additional information.

While it allows joining a server at any time it has some limitations. Mainly you can only select from cars that the server has prebooked and annoyingly when a race is over the session will never end until all clients have disconnected.

Hopefully the modders can nail the online system.

Edit

I'll see if I can do a test run with Snoopy's Nordschleife in Practise mode, as someone said in the comments just like the real thing. Man, if this had proper variable weather and day/night cycle like in DayZ it could be a real hoot racing at Nordschleife at night.

The booking system in this game is so full of ****. Which clown conceived the idea? Is this how all Sim games are? Do KS expect me to sit for 5 mins plus on public servers waiting for a session to open so I can join a race, only for it to say "Booking Full! or "Cannot Join Server"

Poorly thought out for those of us who just want to have a quick race.

Definitely preferred the way GTR / Race07 etc worked. Just join a server during any session but only be able to take part if it is Practise/Qualy.
Looking on the official forums a while back they are looking into other options, think it was to do with loading cars into the game causing a performance hit that was detrimental for those currently racing or something....

Someone just uploaded another version of the Nürburgring Nordschleife
Its a huge improvement over the other version and actually feels like it would be very close to the laser scanned version minus the better quality in graphics. But the bumps feel right now and it doesn't rape my G27.

Why the mystery? Is it Snoopy's version?

Ive played it on a pad, it works but I think wheels are required ideally. A pad works better then iracing, on that I remember using a flightstick for the trial :D

Finally gave multi player a go yesterday, have to say I don't like the booking system. Was having a good race until I got punted off the track

Finding it hard with the xbox pad, can't use my wheel as I broke the pedals :o

Anyway it has a lot of potential and will be good with an organised group rather than on a random server with joe public.

Snoopy's Nord is much better than the other one, track is a lot more driveable although still very bumpy in places. The S3 F40 is a massive handful around there! Makes me look forward even more to the official one to be released later in the year!
