Assistance - Calling all Samsung EVO owners

I am so glad i found this thread, as i thought my Samsung EVO 250GB mSATA SSD was performing poorly. It just doesn't feel as fast as an SSD usually does (and it's only been in my laptop a couple of months and not really used much!). Windows always felt a bit sluggish and when opening things like Photoshop, it would sometimes take 10 seconds

My laptop was imaged from a 2.5" Evo 120GB to this 250GB mSATA using Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5, which i always assumed did align partitions correctly

Great to see a fix incoming though

i ran HDTune Pro 5.50 and this was my result...

I could never call it "slow" bud.....but definitely slow-er

We are so spoilt with these ****in ssd's

Imagine if we HAD to go back to HDDs?

Spot on.

I can't say that I noticed much reduction in the speed of my PC, despite the "bad" benchmark results. I`ve erased/restored, and the benchmarks are now good, my PC might seem a bit faster, but not as much as I'd expected.

not all clued up on this, but i have recently got 4 1tbs evos and was planning on installing them this weekend, am i better off holding out till firmware is out, or cutting my losses and go with crucial?

Difficult question to answer until the new firmware has been released and tested.

I'd be tempted to dsr the drives and either wait to see what happens on the 15th and reorder or purchase Crucial. If the firmware means aggressive moving of data to preserve cell charge the projected life time of the drive will be compromised - but no one yet knows what the firmware will do.

cant return them, 2 were rom peeps who didnt want them, 1 msata evo 1tb i got off the forums here and another i got a while back. just was waiting on good time for me to remove the old hdds and migrate the data over. cant believe i missed this thread tho

So are they still selling the drives if they know it has a problem ? Ive got the pro and was looking to buy another drive

Some of you guys really need to chill out. Wait for the fix and stop worrying.

Some people seem to have sold their SSDs soon after hearing about the problem.

Hopefully the new firmware will fix the issue properly. There are theories that the update may mean a shorter life for these SSDs, and that seems to concern some folk (in most cases unnecessarily).

I think the best option for most will be to wait for the update. If the update doesn't work, I wonder what Samsung will do ?

Well.....IMO.....if the fix doesn't work or does not maintain the performance of the drive without degrading life, I will be returning both of mine.

I mulled the purchase of mine for quite some time and it all came down to the specifications of the drive.

If all of a sudden, these figures change (performance, lifespan) then i would assume that anyone will be entitled to a full refund or alternative product (Yes, i am looking at you PRO drives ;) )
