Assistance - Calling all Samsung EVO owners

Heh, still can't get over these have been sitting on my desk since the 3rd. Hopefully the wait is worth it before the new installs.

Since you're the thread starter, I assume they've sent you a fix already?..

You'd be wrong, oh so wrong.

Nope I did get my drives RMA'ed and new ones back but ultimately they had the same problem of course due to it being firmware.

I'm waiting on the fixed firmware the same as everyone else :-)

Personally I would have thought if it was a FW update, that the tech bloggers/vloggers would be all over it before a UK based retailer? I would have thought a retailer would only get first wind of it if they had to start to prepare for shed loads of returns?

Hoping it's just FW!

That's what I'm thinking (and hoping !).

I have just created another post showing details of the firmware update. I have been testing it all weekend on a number of machines and different drive sizes and can confirm it does work and improves the performance of the drives.

As you can see from the screenshots it has improved the read speed on the drive dramatically. I am just confirming with Samsung now how the update will be released to you all.

cant wait for the update now :D

Hi there

Yep I did this on my PC at home, a vast improvement in read, write and seek times. No issues with the update and a noticeable performance improvement. :)

There is the option to do it via SM, but just checking as its my boot drive. Think I had to do my old SSD via USB at boot last time I did a FW upgrade..? :)

I've updated my 840 firmware on my bootdrive using SM, but that was a new install so if it borked the installation no great shakes, your mileage might vary of course.

I`ve updated the firmware on quite a few EVOs on different machines using Samsung Magician.

Easy to do, and no problems encountered.

It won't be updated using the Magician software

If you look on Samsung's website they have the 'Performance Restoration Software' listed separate from the Magician Software.

Installation Guide http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...rmance_Restoration_v10_Installation_guide.pdf

"Running the software packages provided will first update the firmware(840 EVO : EXT0CB6Q, 840 EVO mSATA : EXT42B6Q),
then scan and calibrate all existing data on the drive."
