Assistance - Calling all Samsung EVO owners

Uh oh OS booting starting to take noticeably longer, getting some intermittent read errors and its noticeably struggling with some test files I've been keeping an eye on (some of the oldest files written to the disc). Guess I'm gonna be forced to replace it if the update doesn't do anything - if I'm gonna be messing about with a secure erase and setting up the OS again, etc. I might as well bin it and replace with a drive I've better experience of the reliability of.

getting some intermittent read errors

That sounds more serious than just loss of read performance.

The strange thing is that my EVO was "in a bad way" according to the benchmarks. After I carried out the secrure erase/restore, I noticed very little difference in boot speed, or the speed of my PC in general use. Games that had been on the SSD for several months didn't seem to load much faster. OK, maybe a little bit faster, but hardly the improvement that I was expecting given the reported read speeds.

Hopefully just another week to wait until Samsung issue the update.

Seems to be a couple of places (on a really old temp file from the OS install) where the ECC is sometimes failing - not always. I could fix it but purposefully leaving it at the moment.

Thing is this drive has been hammered but a lot of that is increasingly newer writes so it shouldn't really cause a worse presentation of the issue than some people are seeing with drives of older data, but less intensive use of the drive.

Should have something for everyone shortly. I cannot say any more at the moment but you will all be pleased.

Why would a member of OCUK staff make an announcement like this ?

If it's a firmware update (which we have been told is on it's way from Samsung), why post something like that ?

Maybe Samsung have a little "reward" for those of us who have spent time testing EVOs and posting the results on this thread. :)

Or maybe Samsung have not managed to fix the problem, and are going to offer replacements. :) (that's going to cause me a lot of grief though).
