Seems a bit odd that HDTune is reporting that you`ve got an 840 non Evo.

Also reports I'm running ATA when it's set to AHCI. Never understood it or what could fix it lol.

Might try updating the Intel Rapid Storage drivers later today see if they removes the bugs.

Used the boot iso and it took ages to complete for not much better performance

Seemed to me like it didn't fully complete the process ?

hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 2100 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1050.14 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 402 MB in 3.00 seconds = 133.98 MB/sec

It will be interesting to see what my 120GB EVO 840's SSD's are like as I do weekly clean free space wipe using ccleaner, and SSD Optimization via magician.

GAME DRIVE

Oddly enough the game drive is actually worse in performance and it's in turbo mode... Still though those aren't too bad

I'm so glad I visited the storage forum!

The performance restoration tool has made a shocking difference to my system. Boot up is back to being seconds and applications are responding much quicker.

I had put it down to my windows install getting lardy so didn't think much of it, until it got silly slow.

Wish I did a before test on HD Tune, it would have been a good one. Oh well.

Test again in a month's time or so. Some of us are finding the fix isn't permanent.

Hope it sticks. If it doesn't you'll be getting noticeable speed degradation within 4 weeks or so. :(

This seems dreadful considering how little it gets used :(
Seeing as there is no long term fix, can these be rma'd or exchanged? Mine is 7 months old.

tatts, have you ran a secure erase and the restoration tool?

Can't be bothered erasing it as it's my windows drive, I'd sooner just buy a new one. I didn't run the restoration tool as I couldn't burn a bootable usb and it looks like the fix doesn't last long?

you don't need a bootable ISO, you install it like you do any other program and then you run it, the software does the rest.

link to it is here, also what firmware are you running as the tool will put on the latest firmware for you before it starts

secure erase may not be needed but sometimes people have reported this to get full speed back.

you should run the tool as it may fix the drive. there is still a few people that have said its not fixed theirs.
