Assistance - Calling all Samsung EVO owners

Is the degradation issue only with the 840? Or is the 850 likely affected too? I just bought a 250gb 850 Evo...

they say its only effecting the 840 evo and not the 850 evo but only time will tell.

I have had my 850 a week and a half now as I changed it from a 840 I used to have

I still do weekly tests on the SSD to make sure its ok

Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit surprised at Samsung leaving 840 owners with this issue for so long. Hopefully 850 is not affected by this. I'll be keeping a close eye on the performance figures.

Hope all you 840 owners have this issue sorted soon.

I bought my EVO 840 500gb a few weeks ago knowing about the problem, but for the bargain price in a sale for £130 (new) I could not resist.
I use it as a media drive and is about 70% full, with 50gb over provisioning set. It came with the current firmware installed, and I have been testing its read speed across the drive daily using the "hand built" test available on the internet, (SSDreadspeedtest), and after 2 weeks it has maintained 540 MB/s.
I appreciate this is still early days, but it does look better than some examples I have seen, so fingers crossed.

keep an eye on it as they tend to slow down after a month or 2, they are working on a fix which should be out soon as the first fix sorted the issue on some 840 evos but not all

It will be interesting to see what Samsung come up with? They said March for the latest fix. I will use Crucial drives from now on

I thought I would change makes as well but to be honest its not like they have not tried to fix it and are working on another fix so I stuck with Samsung and changed one of my evos to a 850 as I brought it locally at the start of the year. so far I am happy with the 850 and because of this I will do the same checks each week for a few months to make sure it doesn't slow down

I know this "fix" is coming soon. But here's my latest results.

hows the PC running on the ssd? do you notice the slow downs a lot?

I've had worse benchmarks, and I didn't notice the slowdowns much. Yes, there was a slight reduction in actual performance, but nowhere near as bad as the benchmarks suggested.

Having said that, we paid for the performance Samsung claimed. They should provide it.

would agree totally. if they state it can do them speeds then it should.

glad the issues not as bad as it looks with performance, lets hope they get a fix out asap!
