Assistance - Calling all Samsung EVO owners

Right, after installing the new firmware with Magician 4.6, am I supposed to then do the advanced performance optimization? The reason I ask is that I've done a test with HD tune and the performance already seems better/more consistent. And that's just from having installed the new firmware - no optimisations run yet.

Firmware EXT0DB6Q (advanced optimization NOT run).

It's not worth running the optimisation. Those two spikes might vanish soon. You might as well wait for a few hours or even days and see if they go. If they are still there, then you might want to run the omptimisation (if you are a little OCD :D).

BTW, those dips might be due to interruptions during the test. The CPU usage is a little high. Might be worth running the test again to see if the dips are in the same place.

Must have had something else running at the time, but going by this second test I'll leave the advanced optimization and like you suggested wait for a few days or a week and check again.

Thanks for the help.

ive still yet to update mine, havn't used that pc for a while

Do it !

Benchmark before and after please (no optimisation though).

The "before" should be pretty bad. It'll be interesting to see how good the "after" is, and how long it takes to restore full performance.

Absolutely no need to optimise by the looks of things.

We just need to wait to see if full performance is maintained over the long term. If it is, Samsung have dug themselves out of a hole.

yeah it was bad last time I checked it,i aint been on pc for around a month

An ideal test then.

Mine wasn't too bad before the update, but it did improve afterwards. I must admit, I did run the optimise a day after the update, just to make sure. My benchamrk now looks very much like zxe's.

Let's see your's !

Erm I think mine is fubard...

Samsung Magician after latest Firmware and advanced optimization (It needed it)

Looks good, but...

HD Tune Pro 5.50

I am up to date on chipset drivers and such. Also this drive hasn't really been battered since i got it 6-7 months ago. It is used as my Steam games drive.

I get similar (constant ~400-450MB/s) both before and after update on mine, I presumed it was something to do with the SATA chipset in my laptop, but I guess not

Before (the drive degraded again since the first update to "fix" this issue)

After (latest firmware AND optimisation):

I have a few big games coming out over the next few months so I will be doing a fair bit of uninstalling and installing so if the drive degrades again, I will definitely be seeking a full refund from the rainforest and get myself a 500GB crucial drive instead.

Digit, you need to set hdtune to use 8mb chunks. This is in the options

Didn't know that. Thanks :)

And this looks ok to me. What do you guy's think?

did you run the optimisation through the magician software after the firstware was installed?

might be worth a try and re test

And yes like i said in my first post that I had done the latest Firmware then the Advance Optimisation.
