Assistance - Calling all Samsung EVO owners

Think my drive needs it more than most

So if this is not properly restoring drives to 500mb+ speeds are you lot returning them?

Probably most people yes, but let's not forget, this firmware fix is to stop it happening further down the line, it won't instantly restore performance. You should be using the advance performance optomization tool or diskfresh after you update the firmware.

Only time will tell ... Happy with mine so far

agreed, looks fine.

4.5 still states there is no new update to 4.6.

as I no longer have a 840 evo I'm leaving mine of 4.5 for the time being.

has everyone managed to get the software and firmware now?

On my fairly aged GA-P67A-UD3-B3

Gotta say that a pretty marked improvement ;)

Does this look ok? I'm confused as to why in peoples screenshots the min/max/avg vary so much?

Some people bump the benchmark block size up in the options to 8MB as otherwise on some system configurations you won't see more than ~450MB in the benchmark (depends what your testing for).

Not sure what to make of mine. Speeds are no longer above 500MB/s apart from a tiny area of the drive (that was there even before the fix) and the steady line after optimisation is already starting to look a little 'off'.

Strange that HDTune doesn't report your drive as an Evo like everyone elses. It is definately an Evo and not a standard one or Pro isn't it?

Also, have you set the benchmark set to 8MB in the options?

Yeah it is odd. Also doesn't report I'm using AHCI either even though I am. Bios and Magician confirm this. Guess it's either a BIOS, Intel Inf, or Intel Rapid Storage issue.

All test I run are 8MB.

really aint rating this fix so far, drive been thru some heavy use since new update out.
firmware update, optimized then restored.
ran test from magician and hdtune, all looked good, ran test this morning just to see, this under a week got to say, in both test since last week, both show at least 10%-15% down on results. time for new drive i reckon, for me personally, samsung has failed :(

I have had my Evo 840 500gb 6 weeks now, and have been running the SSD read speed tester V2.04, and it is still showing an average read speed of 539 Mb/s. It has the EXTOCB6Q firmware which it came with, and I am wondering whether to leave it until I see a problem before updating to this new firmware.

What do you guys think?

if you have no issues I would leave it and keep monitoring it otherwise you would need to re start your tests once the new firmware had been applied.

if you run in to issues then do the firmware update
