I've unpacked my returned monitor and re-run the test.

Unfortunatly the problem still exists. They have NOT fixed the fault.

Overdrive was Enabled when it came back. (I had left it disabled).

Also it was in Night view mode (Everything is brighter) thus the problem is less visable.

(my god my eyes are going funny watching this lighthouse;-)

What to do next ?

just got my new pc including asus 22", manufacturing date == december 06, possibly i won't have any problems at all? as it probably has the firmwire update or whatsoever.

i will install everything tomorrows morning, too tired now,
i will keep u informed [will check the avi file too].

Edit: oh and yeah, i got both vga and dvi cable, no need for the vga cable then right? fix me if i'm wrong.

Thanks Stickroad,

But unfortunatly you have not read this thread properly,

The Negative Ghosting only occurs when Overdrive is switched ON.. If you switch it OFF you get normal 6ms sort of ghosting.

No problem!

Were you thinking of buying one?

It's an excellent screen other than this ghosting issue!

P.S another link for the download is here:

http://media.putfile.com/Asus-MW221U-22--Ghosting-in-games-

(Incase the other one expires again)

I may try and take a video of the screen just so people who dont have one can see just how bad this Negative ghosting (ie Light Grey on dark background) can be!

warning when i turn the asus off the overdrive setting is lost !.

does your asus does this too ???.
Yes. I turned my monitor off with the overdrive disabled and when I turned it back on overdrive was enabled and the ghosting had returned. When I entered the overdrive menu the white bar was on NO and I had to move it to YES and then back to NO before the overdrive (and the ghosting) was disabled.

Gonna be a PITA if I have to do this everytime.

so bottom line gentlemen would you guys recommend this Asus TFT? :(

Ditto. I like the looks,i sit infront of it so angles dont matter and i can put up with the lack of 16.7 million colours (i think) but i cant stand ghosting stuff.

I would rather save money and get the belinea but it looks "ok" but the asus is "wow"

Mine is exactly the same, everytime i turn off overdrive switches on again. :(

Im sure some people here said theres defaulted to being off as they saw the Avi file fine

Im going to tell Asus that its still the same for what good it will do. Games are fine with overdrive off but with it defaulting to on every time is a PITY as you say.

hmmm...

The asus is a good monitor but the ghosting can be a bit irritating but please remember that you can only notice it on darker images, the worst game I have played with it showing is Rainbow Six Vegas, but that game has a massive blur effect all over it so I guess it just makes it a wee bit worse. I haven't tried Quake 4.

The colours take some setting up but it's best to do it via the drivers as the OSD doesn't seem to get them quite right.

Hardly notice the ghosting in games like World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 2,Battlefield 2 or 2142, Never seen it in Company of Heroes or TOCA3 :D

Never tried the speakers, nor would I :P

Build quality is good although my cables were too thick for the clips at the back which rendered them useless.

But what you need to remember is that this is a 22" monitor for under £300 which puts it firmly in the budget category. I have never once noticed ghosting on DVD's or video, the screen is massive too (especially after an upgrade form a 17").

So my advice would be this, if you can't afford a Dell 24" and absolutely have to go for a 22" LCD screen then I would say the ASUS is an excellent monitor for the money. If you are after image quality in games then go for a 20" widescreen which produce a sharper image.

But for me I couldn't justify spending the money on a new monitor to go from 17" to 20" widescreen as the screen real estate increase wasn't worth the initial outlay. So 22" fit the gap nicely for me and after my initial quibbles about RMA's and ghosting I am overall happy with my monitor :)

I guess it;s just down to what you want to do with it :)

I wonder if they were fooled by the fact that NO is hilighted in the menu and so they assumed overdrive was disabled.

Let us know was ASUS has to say.

Starting to get more and more put off this monitor. Just seen this:

22" Mirai DML-522W100 Multimedia 5ms Monitor Black/Silver DVI (3yrs Manufacturers Warranty)

For £187.00 ex vat

Cheap and with DVI, but no HDCP like the Asus.

Will do, as well as asking them why they sent the monitor back after a week with exactly the same problem I also mentioned the discovery of the overdrive menu, asked why it wasnt mentioned in the user manual and mentioned it resets to on everytime the panel is switched off.

I told them I was thinking about returning as it isnt working as spec and mentioned this problem is putting a lot of people off buying it.

Firmware upgrade might not do it!?

Just had this reply from Asus (After I emailed them saying I still have the same problem)

Dear Mr. X,

We apologize for this situation.

Like I said previously, what was done to the monitor was a FIRMWARE UPDATE, which doesn’t seem to solve the problem on you monitor version (.058), therefore the only possible solution that I can provide to you is a monitor swap, but this might take a few days as I don’t have stock.

Would you prefer to keep the monitor until we have stock, or would you like it to be collected immediately?

Best regards,

From this all I can assume is that there is a newer version of the Hardware that will hopefully fix this ("possibly").

Are you sure Overdrive is enabled?

Can you tell me what version number monitor you have?

Mine was .058 (see above post)

Thanks
