Asus MW221U 22" Ghosting in games.

OK it is back and I have had chance to test it out. The firmware update has fixed the shadowing/ghosting/noise problem I had with text etc. on the desktop as described here.

However the fast motion ghosting (which I hadn't previously tested) is still present whilst overdrive is turned on. Turn overdrive off and it dissappears. So I guess that is why they still have your monitor Devious.

Also, as part of their "High Quality Service" they have seen fit to chip the corner of my bezel.

Definitely my monitor. The chip in the bezel is tiny and I tend to look at the screen more - I am just ****** off that they didn't take more care with it.

I could probably demand a new monitor, but I would be really gutted if I got one with any dead pixels.

I going to have a serious gaming session now with the overdrive on/off to see how it performs in reality.

Just had a big FEAR XP session and with overdrive on I see white "negative" ghosting all over the shop. But with overdrive off all seems fine.

It would seem that running with overdrive off is the answer but then we are not really gettting what we paid for.

Trace Free Technology accelerates the fastest response time to 2ms among 22" widescreen LCD monitors, meaning no more ghostings and video latency during movies or games.
I think I'll wait and see how the other RMAs turn out...

OC'ers website states that the Asus warranty is 3 years onsite?
So this basically means that it's a swap out warranty.
I can only presume people with faulty monitors have DOA's and are concerned that Asus will only supply a refurb?
Also if this is the case, like most resellers, do OC'ers also have a DOA period?

I just wondered why so many people have been raising RMA's directly with Asus and having their monitors go back for repair rather than getting them swapped or replaced with OC'ers if they are DOA.

Can someone please enlighten me on this?
Thanks.

Because everyone is having the same problem so if we swapped we would get another one exacly the same.

i couldnt wait until I got home so I hooked the monitor up at work. I need to check my serial Number but I think I may have a new monitor as I got all the cables and CD's even though i didnt send them back.

I tried the Avi and its exactly the same except the ghosting is now behind rather than in front :(

I turned off overdrive and it looks fine. I need to try it at home with some games later.

Yes sorry, good point, as it seems to be a firmware issue the chances are the stock they had will have the same firmware build.
This is a curious fault though, I've run the avi file posted here on two of these Asus monitors and not seem the reported problem.

Maybe those 2 had the overdrive turned off, have a look, if you hold down the menu button for a few seconds you can change the setting then try the Avi again. Let us know how you get on.

but let me get this straight, if the overdrive is off, then it's fine, why do u care if it's off?

They would also have to have one in stock to swap. Which at the time I raised my RMA they didn't.

I can only assume that OC'ers are using the same distributors that the company I work for also use.
We can't get hold of the monitor at the moment and I've noticed OC'ers have some in stock.
Obviously I can get one cheaper so I will have to wait.
Although I am now thinking that perhaps it'll be better to wait unitl I can be sure that any stock hitting our fair island has the updated firmware.

because overdrive should provide pin sharp moving images at 2ms response like stated by ASUS and it clearly doesn't :(

This is why people are annoyed as it doesn't do what it says on the tin :P

But I still like mine and I suspect that ASUS won't be able to completely fix the ghosting issue, well not for some time at least. That's why I cancelled my RMA.

I think (don't hold me to this) that with overdrive on the repsonse time is 2ms and with it switched off the response is higher (to what extent I have no idea).
Personally if the ghosting issue is ressolved with overdrive switched off, I wouldn't care about the response time if the monitor worked correctly.

Exactly, we paid £50 more than other monitors because it had 2ms latency (i.e with overdrive on)

If its fine in games with it off then im happy, i just wondreed if there was some aorund which had no ghosting with overdrive on.
