Asus UL30A

Got one yesterday in CPW. Thanks

If i want to upgrade to 4GB ram can anyone recommend a stick that works?

From CPUZ i see that it is 1 2GB stick and 1 1GB stick. Both are not the same make.

I was looking at this here

2GB 1066MHz DDR3 SO-DIMM laptop memory upgrade module. 204-pin DDR3 memory, PC3-8500 standard. Rated CL7 and operates at 1066MHz at 1.5V

What drivers are you using? At first use, the touchpad was terrible, after installing the latest Synaptic drivers (read, not Elan drivers) its much better, not perfect mind, but perfectly usable.

Otherwise, this machine is pretty good at the price. Obviously build quality is imperfect in places although thats what I expected. I'm happy, performance seems good, though it took a while to sort through the hoarde of crap pre-installed.

bump - what drivers are you using mate?

Got mine today. It seems pretty solid apart from it seems to lift up slightly on the front right side. Only noticed when I was leaning on it and it was bumbing the desk. I can slide a page under the gap between the rubber foot and the desk too.

Apart from that I am pretty pleased with my purchase. Will hopefully get a proper play with it on saturday.

I get the same "problem" on mine I think. If you open the laptop, and put pressure on the front right it gives way and clicks (only a small amount of pressure).

However I'm going to say the obvious about the price I paid (£350) and how I can't complain too much as the spec is great. It's relatively quick. Light. Decent battery life. Definitely don't regret the purchase!

I see it has an HDMI output, I presume I can use this using a DVI convertor to connect to my 1920x1200 monitor. How will it cope with this res?

So is this the best bang for the buck there is in the imminent future?

While I mostly use my laptop in an office, I'd be very happy to stop hefting 3.1kgs (3.6 inc 'brick') of D830 around the place. Add a 450D and two lenses in the same bag and you'll really understand. :)

PS - While CPU horsepower is great (one reason I rejected a Netbook after trying one for a month), I don't need the portable CPU power I once did (and I throttle the D830 to 1.2ghz anyway to stop it overheating).

You're preaching to the converted there (I could pay for the whole thing and then some out of cashback I've got over the last few years). :)

Saw one 'in the flesh' today. Would prefer a bigger screen due to my eyesight but that's a price I'm willing to pay for 50% weight loss. :)

Was going to ask for suggestions of a 13incher for this price.
I think my brother has just picked up a Lenovo_IdeaPad_U350 but it was clearance/refurb for £320.

How would they compare?
Basically just used for internet, music, msn, etc when Iam home from uni or at freinds (cause we be cool like that...)
