ATI cuts 6950 allocation

My only input is this.

Given how much cheaper AMD ATI cards are to produce, smaller die size, higher yields etc. Then you can bet if the performance is not significantly higher than that of the 580 they will just rape it on price, and force Nvidia to counter with the 580 and 570 and given the stock situation of the 580 it's looking like AMD ATI will pretty much have this one in the bag for the next 6 months.

That is all. :)

So the general consensus is if theres anyone currently in the market for a new card for around £300-£400, just wait and get the 6970 as it WILL be quicker?

If AMD are able to get anywhere close to the 500 series in performance Nvidia will be pretty screwed since they don't seem to be able to make the cards in any sort of quantity so reducing prices won't help them much.

every single 580 is out of stock here

Its alright having the fastest card but if you cant provide the stock whats the point!

Clearly everywhere has just decided against stocking the GTX 580 ever since Raven told them the 6970 was going to beat it by up to 40% so they decided they'd never sell. :p

I do think AMD and NVIDIA should join forces to save Raven the trouble of flip flopping :p

I don't think Nvidia will last much past 2011 before they get 'assimilated'.I smell a plot with all this power limitation going on and If competition can no longer be assured by an increase in 'grunt' from one to the other then it will be down to who can produce the same level of card more cheaply.......bye bye Nvidia then. This will be bad news for us as graphics will go the way of operating systems ie windows only real choice. The good news is that clever driver/software tricks will give increases in speed...as per comparing a console game at launch and one when it's been out a couple of years.:(

All nvidia need to do is design chips that will work well on smaller processes like ati/amd did when they got screwed by tmsc's 65nm process. Nobody really knows if the 2900 would have been great on 65nm but it was a massive let down on 80nm because it was huge and performance wise blown away by the 8800gtx.

Either nv are to proud and keep going with there plan of huge chips which does not allow for them to make much profit along with the fact they don't have the ability to compete without losing money when amd bring in cards at decent prices. The gtx470 is a steal tbh at its price points but for me nv would love to put £50-£100 on what they are getting from it.

NV need a new design and they need it fast. The only thing keeping them in business is there huge lead in the professional sector which amd are slowing digging into.

There are rumours (not very reliable mind) they may have consulted ARM for kepler.

Stock certainly seems lower than it was a week or two ago. Only one of my usual hunting grounds has any left with most other places showing several days wait.

I wonder if the 6900's will see better availability immediately after launch? If they offer the "promissed:D" 30% gains over 580 they will fly off the shelves. If they disappoint stock should be pretty good.

The HD5870 and HD5850 cards are being rapidly reduced in price to clear stock rooms. Should mean the new card will come in at similar RRP's hopefully.

LOL. flip-flop, I like it :p

Hold on , EJ22 and Ejizz :D
