**ATI RADEON 7800 SERIES NOW AVAILABLE!!**

But AMD can cram it somewhere at that price.

Agree with this. Seeing as these cards aren't going to give 60fps in most big games when properly maxed i'd rather not feel ripped off while reducing some settings when i can reduce a few settings and play fine with a £100-£150 card!

I can cope with that 'maybe I paid too much for this' feeling when I'm getting something awesome

Given the performance increase from AMD's 7xxx series I was sure they would trounce Nvidia this year. However, their prices are bound to put a lot of people off - these cards seem about £100 over priced.

Also, I can't really see why an informed consumer would buy these mid ranged cards rather than just save a little longer for the top range ones.

7800 available now! Thats what the title says....only they are not are they? We have to wait two weeks to get our overpiced card..so not only are they expensive they are also not available now, cheers then i'll stick with my 4890

Maaan, AMD just cant stop failing...
Pound for performance (thats what we are paying fro right? Not for facelift card design) there is zero progress in this gen. To get the same FPS from the same game its cheaper to buy older card...

What is going on?

Exactly borsch,im sure there are plenty of people who didnt buy 6xxx and 5xx series of gpus because the new gen was round the corner, and all we get is overpriced old gen performance...

Not really

The power consumption is a lot lower for the 7000 series. Over time you will make your money back or vice versa if you went for 6000/500 series. I've seen benchmarks that put 7850 at about 80-90W less under load when compared to equivelent cards.

Nah.

You will save (if you game for three solid hours a day) about 2p a day. So about £6 a year having a very low draw card. It would take you about ten years to see any value, by which time your card will be woefully out of date.

Honestly, whilst I do dig all of this "save power and hug trees" stuff (I should, I'm a country boy) it really isn't as wonderful as they make out. I mean sure, if every human on earth bought a 7850 over a power hog it would make a difference but with one person it's literally a couple of pence a day.

A nail in the coffin of PC gaming.
Yes, at current graphics card pricing the PS4 and XBOX720 should just about kill it off. It starts getting silly when a mid-range card costs more than a fully capable games console with blu-ray and media centre functionality. For most teenagers nowadays a PS3 or XBOX is much more attractive than a PC for gaming. Atleast a new console lasts for 6-7 years after release. A similar priced graphics card (without considering the cost for the rest of a decent system) is pretty much useless after 2-3 years.

For me an upgrade to a 7850 from a 5850 is quite a nice upgrade for the price i think..... I could sell my 5850 for around £80 hopefully and get an extra 1gb of vram for £120! Actually that sounds kinda steap thinking of it now! My 5850 clocks to 875 core just fine with a mild voltage increase, i really would like the extra 1gb vram what would be the best option do u think guys?

PC gaming has been technically "dead" for a long time.

Microsoft pretty much control what we get by bullying with their licenses for the 360, so we usually get a load of second hand slop.

It's been like that for years. We get the odd game every now and then (BF3, Crysis, etc) to remind us why we buy all the expensive hardware but it's usually just one wet fart every now and again with no follow through.

I've said it loads of times now, but as soon as some clever dicky comes up with a console that can do 4XFSAA I'm out. I'll let my PC grow old gracefully and bathe in many games.

Considering the 480 now also.

Am I right in thinking the 480 is quicker than the 7850? There is no comparison on Anandtech...

It is quicker. But, not my much. Well, a overclocked 7850 will run close to a stock 480 IMO. However, the 7850 is far cooler, quieter and has 2gb vram. In testing (BF3 etc) it produced more than playable frame rates @ 1080p, so IMO is a ruddy good mainstream card.

Sure, it may be close to level with a stock 6950, but I would bet it's way cooler and quieter and has a lot more OC headroom in the tank.

Well, I am hoping the next round of consoles will be that good that this will be my last gaming pc setup.

I love the simplicity of consoles, but just wish they could run 1080 without so many jaggies!

Liam IMO best thing is to look for a second hand 69xx series card, they've been going for around £160 on the members market. That is if you really need the extra vram? what resolution are you running?
