** ATi X1k/HD 3k series overclocking guide - ATi Tray Tools and ATi Tool + FAQ **

Ok half way through clocking my master card X1900XTX currently got it upto 680/720 with 1.445v and just testing it now. Havent started on the memory yet but will keep you updated.

One very worrying thing is the temp of the volt regulator. it says its running at 99C!!!!!! this seems insanely high? is this reading right, can it run that high? It seemed to be running high on lower clock settings too. I wont put the core up any higher (infact after i have tested it im going to drop it down and reduce the volts until i find out the operating temperature of this).

The GPU isnt going any higher then 80 but it is a lot louder now :)

Err, 99C does seem a little warm. You don't happen to have a spare fan kicking around so you can get it to blow over the temp regulator? If any thing that should help! But DAMN MAN! Thats silly high if correct!!

How much of a bottleneck is my CPU on my card. I will only bother changing to a better fan and upping my overclock once I get a better CPU.

Yeah apprantly its normal for them to run into the high 90's. I actually had the side of my case off at the time as i had been playing with my ram timings before and had to keep clearing the bios. I put my side back on which has two 8cm fans mounted over the graphics cards and it dropped down to 77C (and knocked about 10c off the gpu core temp too).

The fans i have in my case are kind of bunched up at the port side of the card so im going to mod my case to put a 12cm fan directly over the voltage regulator heatsinks and air intake for the GPU core. This should drop it down quite a bit more and mean i can also turn the speed down on them loud as hell X1900XTX fans (They are quite at stock but once you overclock and need them running harder and faster they get annoying quickly).

So word of warning to anyone overclocking these. Make sure you have a side mounted fan blowing air over them :)

i can max out my control center clocks at 690, 800 on default volts. Is it worth changing to ati tool and running the clocks 24/7? Do the higher clocks add more heat during normal browsing.

I'd rather not add to much heat to my loop but if it only a few Deg C i can live with that.

Its for a opteron 165 and a 1900xt.

GAH!!

ATI use 2D and 3D clocks now, 500/600 - 1.175/2.089V for 2D and 1.4-1.425/2.089V for 3D.

Using ATi Tool you can create as many profiles as you like, settings voltages and fan speeds then using 3D detection to switch between 2D and 3D settings.

Everyone get that?

*sigh*

Umm I think I might be doing something wrong, I've gone into CCC and on overdrive function moved the slider to requested 650 on core and requested 760 on memory and clicked apply yet when I benchmarked on 05 I got a lower score than when it was at default

Bah i have given up overclocking these cards. Got both cards in crossfire system running at 680/820 on 1.4/2.089, run a 3dmark06 test and scored almost 2000 less..... also with ATI tool it doesnt display the temp on the slave card properly and it doesnt store the settings properly for the slave card.

i think my 3dmark06 install is screwed tbh. I can get a decent score then run it again without changing anything and score 3k less, also it has sometimes said that my hardware doesnt support SM2. Every game i have tried runs at full settings with high frame rates and no problems so it seems like it is just 3dmarks..
