Atmospheric games. What're your recommendations for anyone?

Definitely Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, it's one of the few games that I go back to frequently.

Transistor

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Some very good examples so far. I'm going to add in a couple:

Outlast 2 - Creepy, defenceless, on edge. Sounds are great and effects are superb.

Prey - Only 3 hours in, it's got the atmosphere down well. Which is good because the graphics are lacking in comparison to most modern games.

What it lacks in the graphics department, it makes up for in atmosphere and storyline imo

Had just checked out Everybody's Gone To The Rapture on youtube today, doesn't seem to do well in reviews. Will check out more later.
Dead Space, forgot about that one. It's definitely atmospheric, but the controls... Reminds me, still need to complete those :D

Just finished this. My god it's slow and boring.

Beautiful scenery and music, but it's more like an orienteering simulator than a game. Waste of my life. 2/10.

I've heard some say that, but I don't mind walking simulators, as long as the rest is good.
Hell, I've even played Dear Esther (both versions) 3-4 times :D

Thief series, bags of atmosphere.

I like this suggestion, an atmospheric game does not necessarily have to mean state of the art modern sexy graphics to showcase your new Ti182700 XXR, unobtanium edition ETC we've just spend our savings on, and justify to ourselves pretending the current game is good with uber graphics :) ... I would put the first Dues Ex game up there for atmospheric award too, even after all these years I still play it once in a while, and once it gets its its hooks into you its hard to stop playing, and that for me is the true meaning of atmospheric ... you forgive the old graphics for outstanding gameplay and superb storyline ... original Dues Ex, when will we see the likes again?

Best game I've ever played, period and .

Silent Hill series
Project Zero
STALKER series
Bioshock series
TLoU
Dishonored
Metro
Dead Space
Limbo
Ethan Carter
Alan Wake

Pretty much all the usual suspects and you've played most of them. From what I've seen of Senua's Sacrifice, it really feels disturbingly unsettling in a new way. I'd go with that.

been dabbling (2hrs so far) with Bioshock Remastered.

Never played them originally, put about 5hrs into Infinite but got distracted.

Must admit the game world is absorbing. You really feel the world on this one. I think the gun play is a bit well, average. But will persevere as it's just so atmospheric. And I really wanna find out what that big robot is all about...

Completely agree with this. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is clear proof that graphics aren't the be all & end all, yet that is (& rightly so) one of the most hyped games for its atmospheric mood in the game.

Another, The Swapper. When I first played it I wasn't impressed & the second time I started afresh, my first thoughts were "Hmm, the character looks somewhat dodgy" but within 5-10 minutes I completely forgot all about it as the amazing atmosphere of the game kicked in. :D
