Atmospheric games. What're your recommendations for anyone?

I've been playing this over the past couple of weeks, it's brilliant.

I got it day or two before release, but decided to wait for a patch after had some minor problems when got started.
Got side tracked with something else & still got to get around to it. D'Oh!
Shall start tonight :)
The audio in it though, wow!

Does Observer have proper 5.1/7.1 surround sound ?

Just checked settings, nope, just normal audio.
It's bloody good audio though, but not surprising seeing as it's by chaps that made Layers of fear :D

You played Outlast 2 yet @Fishbait ? Sheer horror brilliance for me - just completed it last week and I think it's my new favourite ever horror game.

Also check out Cry of Fear if you haven't already. It's free on Steam and whilst it's a bit old now they completely nailed the atmosphere - keeps you constantly on the edge throughout the entire game. Brilliant, brilliant horror game.

Not yet, nope. Got fair way through first, but never really got into them. Think because it's more of jump scare than Amnesia level of game.
Will try again at some point. Perhaps this month as it;s spooky month hehe.
Will check out the other, thanks.

Reminds me, I grabbed Scorn key.
The game looks soooo much better in game than it does in clips can ever do it justice. Melts my antique pc though ;)
Hope this makes it to full release.

I struggled a bit with the first one too - took a break of over a year before going back and finishing it. The second flows much better though - much bigger areas and it's delightfully twisted.

I urge you to try the remake of Resident Evil if you haven't already, which is available on Steam. The atmosphere is positively sublime!

If that doesn't get your juices flowing, I don't know what will!

Could be mistaken for purely an fps shooter, possibly why it's not been mentioned. However, it's incredibly atmospheric and pulls you in during every lull in the fighting, and the music and regular announcements from the two psychotic scientists over the intercom really keep you on edge.

DOOM.

It was said earlier in this thread, and to be honest I'm surprised it's just been suggested once, so I'll make it again: Subnautica. It's one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. Sure, it all happens underwater, but that's the amazing thing about it, and the environment is utterly stunning. It's still early access but it is a true gem, completely fleshed out and working (has been for the last few years as well) and just keeps getting better. The way it looks now vs how it did a few months ago is an utter transformation.

There are worse ways that you can spend £20 to be honest, and it'll no doubt drop to a lower price in the upcoming Steam sale.

Think I "ran & gunned" too much to really notice atmosphere wise, but yep, not bad at all. Especially with that amazing music!
