Audi owners in here!

The multitronic is not a safe bet at all, it is notoriously unreliable and not a brilliant box when it works.

You sure yours isn't the much better tiptronic?

A friend of mine used to work at Audi as a technical trainer for their mechanics. The Multitronic was nicknamed the Multitragic.

Thanks for the info.

What's year/s did the Multitronic make it to the A6 then? And the DSG/S Tronic?

Probably be looking at an S-Line. If I went for the quattro would that safely avoid the 'Multitragic'?

So after getting some shickingly low insurance quotes for them, I have started looking into A3 2.0T FSI Quattro Sportbacks. (Preferably manual [but will try a DSG], S-Line, decent options like CC, nav, cruise etc) :)

I was previously looking at the 2.0 FSI's a while back if you remember, and a-lot of you tried to persuade me to wait a bit longer and go for the TFSI.

So first things first... Who has the 2.0T FSI engine which would have been fitted to a 2006~ ish A3, and what sort of fuel economy are you seeing on average? Any issues to report? I would probably be looking at cars made between 2005 and 2009 with 60K to 90K on the clock. What is the life expectancy of the turbo and other such things?

I have a 2006 2.0 TFSI Audi A3 Sportback with DSG.
Granted I'm pretty lead footed, I get around 26-27mpg

Thanks mate. What kind of roads are you driving on a typical tank? And when you say lead footed, do you mean you occasionally drive in a spirited manner but don't push it too hard, or do push it hard? ;)

My driving is a mix of town:rural:motorway in a 60:25:15 mix at the moment, though in the towns I drive in, there is barely any traffic, so hardly any start-stop. I daresay my driving style would fall into the first catagory "occasionally drive in a spirited manner but don't push it too hard"

I currently get around 37MPG average from a tank in the Slowlo, and sacrificing 10MPG for four times the power doesn't seem too troubling. :D

Haha yes, that's exactly it ;)

I would say 90-95% of my driving is town driving with traffic. Mainly 30 and 40 with a couple of short stints doing 60. I do 15 miles a day of this so you can see where my low MPG comes from!

I would be happy if I can get high 20's or very low 30's on average. I am aware that the Quattro (which is what I am after) gets a few fewer MPG on average as well. Is yours a FWD or a Quattro?

I currently do around 8K a year, so going from 38MPG average to 28MPG average would cost me £500 more in fuel. I can deal with that. :)

What fuel do you use usually? I believe that the FSI/TFSI's run better with 98 octane fuel? I would be filling up with Momentum 99 most probably. I even put it in the Polo. I don't see the point in getting 95 when 99 is only £2 a tank more expensive.

Only a standard FWD, should have gotten the Quattro lol.
Yeah £500 over a year is nothing tbh, it's a fun car to drive.
Bog standard BP 95 oct, I've been meaning to start using higher octane, just never seem to have my vouchers in the car. Would be interested to see how much difference it would make

You should in my opinion, if you have a Tesco nearby. It is only 5P a litre more expensive, which will translate to £2 or £3 more per tank.

I did some testing (several tanks of each fuel type, same journeys, any anomalous tanks ignored etc) and even my Polo seemed to get around 3MPG better compared with standard supermarket petrol. I have no idea if it applies to this particular FSI engine, but I know that some VAG FSI engines are designed to run on 98. I wouldn't be surprised if the difference is decent with a lower eco higher performance engine like yours :)

I had a 2.0T FWD DSG and got 36-38mpg on motorway commutes over 70k miles. SUL always made my MPG worse!

You can only get a Quattro in manual form unless you get an S3.

36 - 38MPG on a motorway commute seems half decent, again it is about 10MPG less than I get on a steady 60MPH motorway journey. What is SUL? Sorry. :p

And ah OK, I didn't know that, thanks. :)

e; Oh! Super Unleaded I assume.

Yup super unleaded. Really like the 2.0TFSI/DSG combo.

It did feel better on Momentum 99 but mpg dropped by about 2. On Vpower it felt sluggish even compared with 95 RON.
