Audi owners in here!

Thanks for all your replies!
I saw PCV being mentioned when I read other threads about funny rattles..

So I guess it's either the PCV, cam follower or the chain.
I'll see if I can hear the noise from the other side of the engine, as in the vid it was pretty clearly coming from the cam follower end.

Either way, it will have to wait until January and another 3,000 miles or so.
I just don't have the time to sort it now, and any garage will need it a while to find the cause I guess.

What side is the noise coming from ? Your video is showing the left hand side of the engine. The cam chain, chain tensioner and cam follower for the fuel pump are on the right hand side of the engine.

I can take a video of mine is you want, mine sounds exactly the same and my engine has only recently had it's belts all changed. I also don't have the hockey puck PCV as I have a Revo blanking plate.

I do have a Loba HPFP and cam follower which were installed probably 8 months ago now and from what I remember it was still the same. My cam follower was first changed by myself at about 72k miles.

The noise from mine was more prominent on the left hand side. Was definitely the tensioner.

I think this is the thing I mentioned in an earlier post:

Larger cylinder on the right.

Well my Audi 2014 Audi a7 bi turbo black edditon lasted around 2 weeks before i made up my mind.

Its a lovely car, however IMO it is not worth the money Audi price them at. It drives lovely, it cost me 40k Ex demo with tax and other stuff. A bargain compared to the rest out there. I just cannot justify such an expensive car that feels, well middle of the road.

The engine is very good, on a test drive the noise will sell the car to you, if you do some research its just speakers in the exhaust, i felt a little cheated by this, remember the dump valve speakers corsas and saxos had? not to dissimilar as it makes the car sound like a v8. Its not, its has bags of torque and revs to 5100, but as per usual diesel even twin turbo its probably quicker changing gear at 4000. The gearbox limits the torque far to often too, like its slipping the clutch.

In true Ross fashion ( i dont do anything by halfs)

I PX'd it for a 59 plate Audi RS6. lol

pick up friday or monday

I got my 2014 A6 back from the garage today as they were fixing a problem with the sat nav where it would get completely lost. Really not happy though as the car now has scratched wheels from where they washed it even though I never asked them to wash it and the sat nav is still broken!

Now that sounds like an awesome decision to me. :D You'd better post lots of pictures when you get it!

It's an SD one, it seemed to be a problem with the antenna as when it actually picked up the satellites it was fine but sometimes it doesn't find any satellites and ends up getting completely lost, which it shouldn't as it should be able to work out where you're going using the compass and speed.

I'm waiting on them to call me tomorrow to sort the wheels out and get it booked back in. They've already tried to get out of accepting responsibility for the scratches to the wheels but I'm standing firm.

I always ask for my A6 not to be washed as otherwise they'll do this even for a while you wait appointment. I find that whatever they wash with removes wax and that's ignoring the risk of swirls.

I've even seen some dealers drying their used stock every morning with a squeegee blade so any new dust and grit will be well worked in

PCV doesn't normally make any noise when it fails.

Just had the PCV done on my '07 A3 2.0TFSI today - £165 at Audi - £35 for the part, rest was labour/fault diagnosis.

Only sign of anything wrong was the Emission Control Light on the dash, and idle revs bouncing around slightly - other than that seemed to be running fine.

Had a 64 Plate A6 TDI Ultra as a courtesy car - loved it, although well out of my price range unfortunately.

Exactly why I didn't want them to wash it, when I was arguing with the guy at the garage we were standing next to the wash bay and he said they don't use anything abrasive. Looked round to see the guy washing a car using the petrol station car wash style brush, which could easily get dirt and grit in it and transfer it all over the car!

For the second time in a month or so, it wouldn't start first time this morning.

It cranked but wouldn't start. Turned it off and tried again immediately and it fired up no problems

I believe the coil packs were replaced under recall ages ago.
Seems weird though. Sometimes it takes a little longer to crank and it almost splutters into life.

I think this is normally a crank or cam sensor issue. A few instances of it on Audi-Sport but it's not that widespread that I know of. The only other thing I can think it may be is the fuel pump on it's way out (not the HPFP).

Good choice. I've had mine for nearly 3 years now and although I often have thoughts of changing I've not yet found a compelling reason to do it. It still puts a smile on my face, and a sour disapproving look on my girlfriend's.

Avant or saloon?

saloon, tbh it was the cheapests rs6 around, comes from a audi dealer with 12 months warranty, is a 59 plate and has fsh with plugs etc done and new brakes all around when it came in.

the looks are bland, i had a rs4 this year for the summer, (b7) but i hope i can tastefully change it somehow

Cheers again. I'll take it in in the new year and we'll see what they find.
I wondered if this was related to the cam follower but I don't think it is.

Anyone know how long it takes for the new service interval to display on an Audi 8P? Had my car services (by Audi) a few weeks ago yet it still shows dashes? Thought I would ask here before calling them
