Audi owners in here!

Hadnt appreciated they were that similar. I presumed an age gap of almost 10 years would be enough for it to be different! Along with a bit more power

The A3 has been mostly unchanged since about 2003 (to 2012).
Also, that TT hasn't been updated since 2006.

The TT was introduced in 2006 and built on the platform of the 2003 A3.

The 2014 example you drove was the very last of that generation of TT. It has now been replaced by an all new car.

I see I see. I thought there had been more of an update in the '14 TT (not the brand new one)

The TT was updated with the 211 ps 2.0 TFSI in 2010 though and it is significantly faster and has more torque than my old 56 plate 2.0 TFSI A3 did.

It's probably the same engine running with the turbo set to produce more engine power.
This is pretty common, diesel and petrol engines designed to run from 100bhp to 220bhp with the only difference being the boost pressure.

Having been in a A3 and a TT I can say that the TT definitely handles far better than an A3.

Much prefer the drive of the TT but maybe that's just me. Otherwise I would have got an A3.

Btw the TT had a facelift in 2010 so it's not exactly the same as a 2006 model.

In terms of the stuff that would make it feel massively different to an A3, it is the same. Facelifts don't tend to change the fundamentals of a car, which is why are they are merely facelifts - superficial surface changes and a few tweaks here and there. Nothing major, it's still basically the same car that came out in 2006.

You wouldn't consider a diesel F10 5 series the same as an M5 though would you though? I imagine 'most' parts of the M5 is the same as your car except engine etc stuff.

Are you trying to say the TT is an M5 in comparison to an A3 being an F10 diesel?

That's a terrible analogy. A better one would be to ask me if I consider my facelift 02 E39 to be fundamentally the same car as a 96 model to which the answer is of course it is, despite minor tweaks and an engine revision.

The same is true of a 2013 TT versus a 2006 one.

No?

Maybe I've just never understood this 'logic'.

I guess it's now an even more relevant point with the MQB technology.

Audi A3 Mk3
SEAT León Mk3
Volkswagen Golf Mk7
Škoda Octavia Mk3
Audi TT Mk3
Volkswagen Passat Mk8

Are all fundamentally the same underneath

Quick question guys. Is Audi screenwash the same as the VW/SEAT/SKODA windscreen washer fluid?

I only ask as I need some for the A4 and the closest dealer to me is a Seat dealer. I remember when I had my golf the screenwash bottle had all the makes on it.

Why does it need to be a specific screenwash?

Well not sure about Audi, but in my BMW mixing screen washes with the BMW original causes all sorts of problems of slush and clogging up of the lines.

I also just like to use the OEM screen wash in my cars, its not that much more expensive and its obviously made to work in that system.

I'll drop into the seat dealership and see what their bottle says :) it will probably be cheaper at seat than audi anyways :)

It is the same as what you get from the Audi dealer. Like you said VW/SEAT/SKODA etc on the bottle anyway.

Thanks yeah picked up 2 (1L) bottles for £12.50!

Went to BMW after that, picked up 2 (1L) bottles for £9 and a great BMW bag as well!

And they say BMW is expensive!
