Audi owners in here!

£7k for an 10 year old A3?!

Is there a pile of bearer bonds under the rear boot floor or something? :D

Why is it S-Line badged if it's not an actual S-Line (Irrespective of the fact Sport is similar spec it still isn't an S-Line is it?)?

I suspect his logic is that it's basically like an R32 and they cost loads so his is worth loads as well. But of course the point here is that it isn't an R32 and therefore the fact it's nearly as good/better/whatever isn't relevant because the R32 isn't expensive because of it's technical characteristics it's expensive 'because its an R32'. The market for models like that is generally not rational, people who want an R32 want an R32 not an A3 3.2.

Funny money for a 2004 car - but it doesn't matter anyway fn2 needs to go first, probably a couple of months away to get the right money for it.

Trade on that A3 is in the region of £3.5k - I'm all for people getting a but more privately and the advantages of being able to actually speak to an owner about their own car, but not to the tune of double what they'd get offered

Just considering options

That A3 looks nice but not 7k nice, I sold mine which was on about 110k and bodywork could do with some smartening up (needed a good polish to brighten it up) for 3k.

Just install the newer Audi unit, its much better. There is no need to go for the crappy units in situations where a much better OEM system exists and thats exactly the situation for the B6 A4.

Just been looking actually after I posted, it seems you can pick up the LED ones for around £400ish.

When you consider what a parrot & satnav costs + fitting it doesn't seem too bad, and would freshen up the interior nicely.

Needing to install a Bluetooth hands free and also possibly a Satnav, however would prefer to change the radio in the car at present as I would like to be able to play music from a memory stick.

Would something like this offer a good compromise on price vs quality:

As Fox suggests, just get the proper RNS-E. Much better off, and will look miles better being the factory unit...

Not even a HUGE amount more to be honest. LED ones seem to be around £100 more though for the latest one.

EDIT: Beaten to it obviously.

UPDATE - Oil Consumption

Nearly 2 weeks testing and my toy has now officially failed. They have asked questions around the service history and types of oil used, sought documentary proof all of which exists and confirmed that Castrol 5w-30 was used in all services.

Now waiting for a further update on the courses of action open to me to get a fix to the problem. So far the dealership have been great in their communication

More updates as soon as I get them

What are the feelings on Audi Multronic?

I'm not sure if I want an A4 or an A6 but I've seen an A6 Avant 2.0TDI Multitronic 2013 Black Edition. Looking at either the 2.0 or 3.0 and I want the one with all the bells and whistles on the inside (I don't know the term but the ones with the little wheel by the gear stick)

Hardly any have manual gearbox (don't even know if you can get them on the 3.0s) so was wandering what the multitronic is like day to day. They've got the paddles on the wheel but is that a bit of a gimmick or do you feel you are actually changing gear?

It's a CVT, IMHO it's really unpleasant. I've no idea why Audi decide to ruin the A6 range by insisting that only people who buy the 300bhp BiTurbo TDI or the petrol hybrid can have a proper gearbox. It's just bizarre, it's a large executive car and is IMHO suited to neither a CVT nor a DSG.

This sort of odd choice probably contributes to the fact that the A6 is cheaper on the used market than its main competition. Which I guess its a bonus for used buyers.

I had a 2009 with the multitronic gearbox and it was dire. Albeit with the 2.0 TDI 143 engine attached. It may be better with a more powerful plant behind it, but I doubt it.

On another note, the 2.0 TDI is woeful on fuel economy. I only ever averaged 40 mpg in the 143 bhp, but put that down to the gearbox. I then went for a 177 BHP variant, and swapped the auto for quattro (not an option on the 2.0 TDI A6). I thought the gearbox swapped for quattro would have caused similar fuel efficiencies, but I was wrong. It was worse in the newer "more efficient" 177 power plant. I only managed 36-37 mpg average with that one.

By contrast, I swapped that out, sharpish, for a 335d (despite, at the time at least, preferring Audi to BMW, by a long way). I got BETTER economy out of the 335d than the 2.0 TDI. I now have a 530d, which is still a few mpg better than the 2.0 TDI Audi A4.

I didn't bother looking at the 3.0 TDI from Audi because if they can't get the economy on the 2.0 TDI, then what chance do they have with the 3.0 TDI? And most people I know with new 2.0 TDI Audi's suffer the same problem. Terrible fuel economy. Same as those I know with the 3.0 TDI.

I do like Audi though, despite this. But I wouldn't buy a diesel for fuel economy. If you like the "toys" and the way it drives, then fine. But fuel economy is dire, so I would just buy the petrol. If it's fuel economy you want, then the BMW or Merc do that aspect much better.

I have the 143 variant in my 2012 facelift A4, albeit with a manual gearbox, and i can get 62mpg with a real steady foot, 55ish is easily obtainable, and even when giving it stick its never dropped below 45mpg.

Is it the same Multitronic as in my 2006 A4?

To be honest I quite like it, smooth gear changes and in my opinion quite well suited to the 143bhp diesel engine.

When pushing on however it is a bit of a pain, but I do have flappy paddles on my car which helps.

Ive just bought a 2011 RS3 on impulse, got bored of waiting for the right M3.

Its very very quick, until you get to a corner, then it gives up.

Any one want an RS3? Bargain.
