Audi owners in here!

Not really much need of any manual intervention if you've the electronic handbrake with hold assist as the brakes are automatically applied when the car stops, then the handbrake automatically applies if you turn off the engine, or remove the seat belt or open the drivers door. The handbrake will also automatically disengage when you pull away but only if the seat belt is on. The only time I ever use the handbrake manually is if I don't want to dazzle the person behind me at nightime as hold assist puts on the brake lights. I also have been driving using conventional handbrakes for 45 years but I've got used to mine, now when I get into my partner's fiesta I find it a pain to have to use a mechanical handbrake...

The way the hold assist keeps the brake lights on is the most brain-dead feature ever. It's bad enough when morons sit at lights at night with their foot on the pedal and their LED brake lights blinding the poor sap behind without this feature promoting it!

The electro-mechanical handbrake is actually a step in the right direction as its ease-of-use promotes using it instead of the foot brake and thus less dazzling, only for everyone with the hold assist option to never use the handbrake at all and instead dazzle all the time

It winds me up that mine is like this - Auto Hold engages the handbrake for me automatically, which is fantastic. And applies the brake lights. Grrr.

I've only driven it during the day so far, I had no idea it kept the rear brake lights on. That's pretty silly. Will have to remember to use the proper parking brake for night time driving.

I deliberately didn't spec it when I found out about this.

I don't feel that strongly about it, though its standard anyway.

No I'm just saying that I was interested in the option until I realised about the brake lights, then I decided there was no way I wanted it. I've heard of people who've specced it but leave it switched off all the time now they realise about the lights.

I don't understand why you would care about it enough to change the way you use the feature or not use it at all/not spec it?

I think its daft how it does it, but it doesn't stop me using it. You can't see it yourself anyway.

Indeed, why would i stop using / not have a feature just because someone behind might be a little bit bothered about it? They don't care about me so i don't care about them!

And if you're sat at the back of a queue on the motorway with it engaged I'm much rather have the brake lights on than not...

I can only agree with some of what you say on the hold assist, but, as you know, other owners seem to like it...

Yeah, but just put the handbrake on and they're off, I find it is useful in other ways. Most people sit with their brakes on anyway it seems, I think they've lost the ability to use a handbrake these days. I just tend to put on the handbrake when I am stationary for any length of time, or at night time.

Hi, looking after some advice. Interested in an Audi A5 and going to arrange a viewing with a private seller (through work) I just wondered what I should look out for?

Also this is the spec, is it reasonably priced:

Audi A5 2.0 tfsi sport coupe (auto)
2009
22k on clock
Fsh
One owner
£12k

I've not seen it yet apart from pics but im assured it's been well looked after.

What do you think?

Which auto box?

If CVT then I've heard about issues with reliability. I can't really comment about anything specific so I'll let someone else go into detail.

Seems quite cheap to me considering the low mileage.

I'd be asking about oil use due to the age and 2.0 TFSI engine - you don't want to pay for a rebuild ......

It's paddle shift. Previous retired owner, so hasn't done many miles.
