Audi owners in here!

That's great cheers. How can i spot this if its not immediately apparent?

How much would this cost to sort, I'm guessing a couple of grand? Heard something about failed injectors costing a grand a peice as well on a certain year, is this something you know about?

I dread to think how much a rebuild would be - mine (under warranty) was in the garage for a month

I had three injectors go too - one under warranty - one cost me the thick end of a grand and the other I got away with paying for the parts

When the engine started to sound "off" again I got rid and traded in for a 3.0 TDI

It was a 2010 / 60 reg 2.0 (211) TFSI A5 Sline - engine rebuild at 30k miles - traded in at 5 years old / 50k miles

Jesus...

Might go diesel, seen a few 2.7s around...would love a Quattro mind.

Seen the car today, very smart but a red flag came up.

Checked through the logs and services and the owner reported that he was topping it up with a lot of oil, over a litre every 6-7 weeks and didn't do many miles....:(

There wasn't anything g in the paperwork to suggest anything had been done to fix this but it wasn't reported again and Audi even skipped the next oil change (well it wasn't ticket)

This was back in 2011. Is it worth pursuing? Can I check with Audi if it's been fixed, I have the engine number. Also all services, mot etc went the an Audi main dealer. Would that be enough for me as a second hand user to say it should have been dealt with?

You could try calling Audi and see if they have a record of it being done - but surely the seller would know?

It would also be worth asking Audi if you have any recourse should it need a rebuild as the car has FASH

The guy is selling on behalf of his uncle, who doesn't believe anything was done. Would they do something like this silently? Or is it too much money to fix therefore they stuck their heads in the sand hoping it went away?

Tbh I just can't take the risk, trying to move house, baby on the way, if I get this car move (coming from nissan Nevos where I get a new car every 9months and just worry about not scratching it) wrong it will make things very uncomfortable.

If thats the circumstances then I don't think 5+ year old German cars are the way forward. There is no guarantee of trouble free ownership with any of them with the possible exception of ones you are able to renew/purchase the manufacturer backed comprehensive warranty with.

Might be better off with something less interesting but newer.

A huge part of me is agreeing with this. :(

I would agree with the above. I would walk away.
My old A4 doesnt go through oil like that and its coming on 200k

there's a few folk complained about an excessive oil usage on the newer vag engines
the wife runs a seat Leon 1.6tdi but I haven't noticed it using any oil but its not even done 3000 miles yet so time will tell.

Exhausted all other methods of talking to my S6 and bought a new Rosstech USB-HEX+CAN cable. The second hand market for these is dry as a bone. You can rent them for £30/3-days but I expect I can sell it for near new price when I come to part from VAG ownership.

Until then, expect it at the regular meets.

Is it an Audi driver thing to have the headlights on 24/7? I literally never see an Audi that hasn't got its headlights on, no matter the time of day / general weather conditions, around my area. Lovely cars though :p

VCDS is a brilliant piece of kit and well worth the money especially as a lot of people are willing to pay if you diagnose thier car.

The S3 has just been in for a clutch change and a dogbone mount insert. Unfortunately when removing the DMF the crank seal was leaking so may as well replace that.... Then the bolt for the dogbone bolt was seized solid into the subframe so that had to be removed along with a new bush. My bank account certainly isn't liking this month so far...

Ryan, most modern cars although Audi's were early to adopt have DRL's (Daytime running lights) I can only presume for safety.

Any car sold in approximately the last decade here has front daylight running lights. It's a safety feature pioneered by the Swedes since probably before you were born.

Granted, the AUDI DRLs are brighter than most. I can turn mine off but I'm not in the habit of deliberately turning safety features off.

It seems to be impossible to turn them off. I had mine set to auto until I noticed they were staying on in perfectly clear and bright conditions. So I switched them to Off. 2 miles later, I noticed they were still on. I give up.

3 weeks into owning my new S3, less than 800 miles on the clock, and I've got my first warning light. Emission Control System warning. Wonderful.

My prefacelift S3 with xenons had a little switch for DRLs.
I almost always had them on. Good safety feature.

Mine are just on Auto in my A3. I have Xenons and it has a seperate notch for DRLs but I tend to just leave it in auto anwyay. So yeah they're always on. Since i'm inside the car, it doesn't really cross my mind so i just forget about it :P

Ah, I genuinely had no idea what they were for, I just thought every Audi driver around my town never remembered to turn off their lights or something :p

I had to google DLR. Do I understand this right? It's an EU law that every new car has to have daytime running lights switched on the whole time the car is being driven? Explains why I couldn't turn mine off.
