Actually if a mortgage deposit is your aim then provided you still meet the affordability criteria surely keeping the cash is of more value.

Quite. Hasn't stopped me signing for my mortgage last week.

In my attempt to join this thread properly I've ordered a car through Drivethedeal. Just had the call back to confirm and given an original estimate of August:eek:

Oh well, I'm not in a hurry, just impatient.

Cancel it and buy something else, if DFS said your sofa would be half a year you wouldn't stand for it so it always amazes me people put up with it for cars that are not custom order Aston Martins or something.

I hear what you say, however this is a bit of a dream car for me that I've wanted to buy for a long time, but have always had other financial priorities.

So as far as the car goes for me, there is no other option (irrational I know, but what I want). My local dealer offered me cars they had in stock and I could have this week, however none had the options I was looking for and 8k more expensive than the car with all my chosen options. When pushed he reduced the price slightly, but it would still not be exactly what I was looking for and for a lot more money. This will be my first ever brand new car in my 23 years of owning cars. From what I have seen the initial estimate on Audi's are usually longer than they really take, but a 12 week waiting time is fairly normal.

I've done this several times selling & settling early; either you need a substantial deposit so you don't start off in negative equity or overpay your monthly's to bring the balance down - which will also need to be substantial to make any material difference.

The settlement figure requested midterm will show a balance without interest accrued over the entire term, so as long as the car is worth more than that, there shouldn't be any problem.
I had an Audi TT on a 4 year PCP. I got rid of it after a year and actually got around £2k back. I just got a settlement quote from Audi finance and then sold the car to we buy any car who paid Audi the full amount they wanted and the rest directly to me.

How on earth are used A6s going for 8k over new then!?

It wasn't used, the local dealer were quoting new, but in stock. He was quoting list price to start off with, which is where the 8k difference comes from.

Perhaps they sussed you as a serial car considerer :p
Perhaps. They only had two salesman working and they both had customers. It was worth it thought as they had an RS3 in that I sat in to see if I could get comfy (didn't like the A5 I had), and have a look around the car. My only gripe really is the knob for the infotainment is still counter intuitive.

Being a complete newbie at new car buying, are there brokers to use and ones to avoid? Speccing a car up on Car Wow and Drive The Deal currently.

There expensive cars. Ring the different Audi dealerships and see if they have build slots which are still spec amendable and then ask for between 3-8% discount depending how good there build slot is and see how far you get. Base the discount around options you want to "do the deal" I started off at 3% ish discount and then got them to throw the carbon fibre inlays in for free and some other bits which equated to around 4.2% discount.

You might have to travel to get these discounts though. I was originally dealing with Doncaster which is 10 minutes away but ended up buying one from Worthing Audi on the south coast. However doing that meant I got a cheaper car quicker even factoring in a bit of petrol.. I quite enjoyed the drive back as well ha...

I can't see the point in sitting chatting to some salesman. Once you have the Audi configuration code just keep speaking to them all on the phone and offering to pay a circa £2k deposit until you get what you want. You will soon get them calling you back once they know your serious..

Car dealers are good at this selling cars thing and getting what they want. You have to be as good back

Cheers. I've been in touch with Tetbury Audi who offered 3.2% off the spec I put in on Carwow. The salesman seems a decent enough guy and has good reviews on there. He was messaging me till 11pm last night answering my questions. He said there is a build slot for June/July but he would be surprised if it didn't go this week. I inquired about securing it and he told me not to worry as his manager should be able to secure another slot should it go, but if I really wanted it would be mine for a £1000 deposit.

I don't want to put any deposit till driving one, and I have arranged to go up on Saturday to drive their demonstrator. I'll then looking at pushing for more discount or some bits thrown in.

Has he said when it is spec amendable untill? It's going to be weeks yet so that puts the onus back on him to offer you a better deal. I know people have had closer to 8% discount but a lot of them took Audi finance which the dealer gets a kick back from where as I used asset finance and he knew I was getting the car over a month earlier compared to Doncaster hence why I didn't get as much...

Try and find a demo with dynamic pack... The one I test drove back to back with the a45 didn't have it on and was still good but the dynamic pack exhaust is just awesome.

Speak to some more dealerships before you agree anything from different dealer groups.

Don't worry about not dealing with a "local" place. It's a 50k car and if you have grief Audi uk will step in..

Cheers for the advice. Yeah it's spec amendable. This is what he sent:

Hi Chris,

We ( Inchcape ) have 10 of the 120 dealers in the UK, we currently have just the 1 build slot in week 25 that is showing available, and this can be used by any 1 of the 10 dealers we have to place a customer order, this is the only one showing as available that is not already confirmed or built, once confirmed we can no longer change the spec of the car unfortunately.

I don't operate under a pressure sell, as I said, we would certainly look to secure you a car a quickly as we can. My boss is very good at securing cars though, so I wouldn't panic about loosing that slot if it goes.

If you did want to secure it, we would ask for a £1000 deposit, as long it was sensible spec and nothing to bespoke (I.e a Pepermint green interior!)

Kindest Regards

Kieren
