Audi owners in here!

not all cars.

my nissan micra is almost 10 years old and going strong mate.

BM's and Mercs are very reliable as well.
Cars should be more reliable these days with latest tech and innovation.

I think the older cars are more reliable.

newer cars are getting harder to work on for the average DIY mechanic which brings in more work for the main dealers.

not just the computer side of things where you need to run diagnostics to reset service lights and faults to get a car out of limp mode but any repairs or just general maintenance is getting harder to do on modern cars.

It's also the last simple A4 ever made, but I doubt it's made it to 19 years old and 200k without you spending money fixing broken things.

to be honest the cars been well serviced and still gets serviced regularly. apart from wear and tear items my main issue has been it likes to eat rear springs but I think this was a common issue with the B5 A4 quattro plus mines does get used for towing. Ive fitted a set of eibach so fingers crossed they should last longer.

apart from that ive rebuilt all the brake calipers with new seals and dust guards.

I did fit FL S4 rear calipers on it to give it vented rear discs and slightly bigger. Ive also used A3 S3 front carriers so I could fit 312mm front discs rather than the standard 288mm

 thats not a good bill to hit with after 2 months of ownership.. where did you buy it? was it a dealer or private? just wondering if you could try and get some of that back if it was a dealer.

this sort of thing reminds me why I do all my own servicing and repairs on my own car.

Bought it private

Hopefully no more nasty bills.

Still need to fix the broken drivers side electric window and get round to bodge fixing the OS rear light cluster which fills up with water.

could be as simple as the rubber seal between the light and the body. or even a hairline crack.

is it the wire that's broken on the drivers window? you can normally buy repair kits for them off eBay

the light cluster issues is fairly common, same issue on my a3.

I ended up replacing mine rather than bother with drying it out etc.

I can't see any cracks or break in the seal. It's a fairly common issue from research online. I think the cluster housing sealing isn't brilliant.

Again from online searches, it appears that it's the lever mechanism which goes on these. £40 kit from eurocarparts etc. should do the job. Just waiting for warmer weather to get the sound proofing off easier!

Is there any guarantee it won't come back with a new one? Read loads of threads on Audi forums where Audi would replace them under warranty. But they've had 7/8/9+ replaced and still have issues.

my 16yo A4 @ 242k has been in the family since new and hasnt had much spent on it over the years,
but comming home on the m25 today i put the wipers on as we went through a shower and the drivers side wiper stopped working,
turns out the bracket holding the spindle had snapped, got quoted ~£240 from my local garage :/
