I wouldn't take that as gospel. There is no all-new A3 due.

Just a minor facelift I'd imagine towards the end of the year.

Yes a facelift. Still a new a3 mate.

It seems that you can't custom spec a3 anymore. Again go phone audi and ask.

There are people waiting for the announcement. Also go check the dozens of audi specific forums.

I am surprised none of you lot know about this.

Or you could just elaborate?

Normally pointless asking a dealer as they generally don't want to damage sales of current models by speculating about unreleased models.

I didn't ask. They told me when I was about to order a custom spec a3 sportback.

I then did my own research and found countless of forums all confirming that bad new a3 be it a facelift or whatever is gonna be announced within a month.

Why would a dealer tell me there's a new a3 coming soon instead of getting me to buy the current model then? They just lost a sale. Why would they do that for the laughs?

No it's not, it's a facelift to the existing A3.

Define the term facelift?

For me a facelift is that they tweak and change the existing model with maybe slightly better exterior and interior stuff and extra goodies etc. That is to me a new car by my definition?

A facelift is as you say - minor tweaks to an existing model to freshen it up. A new car is when they replace the entire car with an all new model.

When the A3 was introduced in 2013, it was a new car. When the A3 is facelifted in 2016, it is simply a facelift.

Audi tend to facelift multiple times during a models life cycle as they are very keen on flogging dead horses :p

For example, the (at least) 2 facelifts in the previous generation A3 over the span of 10 years.

I thought you were buying a £20k used one? In which case the facelift is kinda irrelevant. It's not exactly going to knock £5k off the value of a £20k one overnight.

But wasnt it you who stated how u can grab a brand new one for 21k mate lol.

Anyways my budget increased by 5k so i have 25k.

A facelift A4 Sportsback for 25k should 100% be doable

A facelift isn't a new A3 - it's still completely the same underneath.

Maybe you can't custom spec one - I assume there is a changeover period where they stop producing the old one and then begin producing the facelifted one.

I am surprised none of you lot know about this.

As reference above it was reasonably common knowledge a facelift was coming.

If it's just a facelift then they have nothing to lose by telling you (as they aren't suddenly going to offer huge discounts on pre facelift). As mentioned if there is a changeover period then they literally couldn't sell you a new from factory pre facelift car even if they wanted to. They haven't lost anything as you have to wait for a new car, unless they have what you want on their forecourt.

Would u wait for a face-lift?

I probably would wait, because it would annoy me driving around and seeing newer looking versions of a car I just bought. Same reason why I wouldn't buy a new car towards the end of a model's lifecycle.

Most non-petrol heads would just buy what is available at the time, or whatever the dealer directs them towards.

If a facelift is out imminently then I would wait for that, if you're on about buying new.

In fact, I'd be looking at the Audi A3 saloon if you've got £25k.

So it is nothing more than a facelift then?

And yes could be worth it, if you was buying an S3/Rs3 or were to actually spec any of those options (which I guess most people still wont - and with a £25k budget yourself doubt you will)
