Australian Grand Prix 2010, Melbourne - Race 2/19

I don't think Vettel will quit RBR yet. Isn't he under contract for a few more years yet?

I don't think that Austrian boss of Red Bull will let him go.

I suppose it depends on if Vettel gets to the end of the year and feels he has lost his 2nd title due to reliability woes. I don't see him moving to Merc unless MS quits and I have faith MS will start beating Rosberg very soon.

Hi Memphis. I know you said not to bother dignifying you with a response, but you should know me better by know ;)

I'm not sure it's fair to compare this thread with what goes on in the Graphics forum. I occasionally pop in there, and it really is beyond a joke. It's probably time that a few of the posters there had their access to that section blocked. I know if I had moderating duties I'd be fairly unpopular with some of those guys - they'd be lucky if I didn't ban them from the entire forum because they're a waste of perfectly good bandwith.

This being said - it's also probably a good idea that I don't have moderating duties for this forum as well.

Phase 1 - ban sunama
Phase 2 - ???
Phase 3 - profit!

:D

Sunama has been a breath of fresh air this race with a three dimensional opinion on all fronts. I even agree with his overview of todays drivers of note. Don't be so hard on him!

Anyway, I always agree with you. I just can't be arsed posting half the time. Swimming in the proverbial is what it's like posting in these threads sometimes! :D

Just a thought about Red Bull... this is another year they've gone to the wire on developing the car. Maybe it was a little rushed? Although the engine is the weaker point, today was nothing to do with that and the last race was assumed a mistake in fuel saving and cooling technique causing a plug to blow. It does seem like they've missed out for silly reasons and they've certainly got a driver to deliver the goods. I just wonder if these reliability issues will be knocked on the head sooner rather than later as it seems to be something different every time.

It's not because I disagree with him, or get annoyed by him. It's just because I think it would be the perfect way to really needle him. And I have a warped sense of humour about that sort of thing :)

Are you reading another thread or something? The discussion in here about LH has been very civilised and people have generally been respectful, for once, of each others opinions.. Quite unusual actually!

Heh, I was thinking the same earlier. JRS has even been reasonable. That and I also spend a lot of time in the Graphics section, which is one of the most supportive I think.

Some people see things very.. oddly.

I've got a different needle, and subject. Ferrari International Assistance! Look at his eye twitching.

I don't agree with the comments that LH is somehow naive or inexperienced regarding the additional pit stop.

All he can make a judgement on is how his car is now.. For JB it was easy, he admits his tyres where cooked at that time, he was actually given the choice of if he wanted to pit, so a no brainer, his choice, a good one, it payed off..

With LH, he knew his tyres where fine, but what he can't possibly know is what they will be like in 10 or 20 laps, so when the team say pit, he has to believe they have some info/data that supports it..

Sounds like just a bad decision by the team, I can't see any other driver not doing the same thing..

But other then that, it was a great race, the only bad point was MW's lack of talent..

I feel sorry for Seb, happy for JB, was impressed by Alonse and LH, and am glad lady luck has mixed it up!

Well, that was certainly worth getting up for!

A cracking race obviously made that little bit better by the changeable conditions at the start but after Bahrain this was much needed. Brilliant drive from Button, thoroughly deserved that win. Bad weekend all round for Hamilton, would have been well in contention without that McLaren balls-up. Webber should be shot after a dismal performance and Vettel's bad luck continues after looking like cruising to victory - very unlucky for RBR, they've probably got the best car but the worst luck.

Amazing to see a HRT actually finish, albeit 5 laps down and hopefully something for them to build on. I'm pleased with the finishing order, as I like Button and the Ferraris, and as much as I dislike Hamilton he deserved better than 6th without a doubt.

To everyone doubting MS - remember who whacked him at the start, that didn't really help his cause did it. He's just not going to be instantly at his best again.

Had to record this, on 12th lap now... manage to last all day with out finding out what as happened :)

Button is already driver of the day for me, really hope he wins it after balls he as shown for early tire swap

And HAHAHAHAHA at alonso spinning out :) (hope he doesn't land a podium or ill look a right plonker now :p )

Excellent race, Button took a masterful and world-champion type decision (the kind of thing we'd have expected MS to make back in his day). Unlucky for Hamilton, think it's poor form he blamed the team.

Watched this on iplayer last night.

What a brilliant race. Great strategy from Jenson won him the race, even though he did look a little shakey on that first lap with the slicks :p

And unlucky Hamilton. What the hell was Webber thinking! He is absolutley toilet.

Indeed, though of course Button ran the bulk of the race on that one set of dry tyres just managing his pace at the front whereas Hamilton had an extra set bolted to his car to go on a charge.

True, but even when they were effectively on the same set of tyres, Hamilton was faster. Often by a considerable margin.

Button won it on a great call on tyres.

Way I see it with McLaren at the moment, they have two very different drivers;

Hamilton: Young, impulsive, brash, takes risks, and complains very quickly if things aren't going his way (throws toys out of cockpit).

Button: Mature, calculating, steady, able to think for himself.

I'm not saying that Button is perfect, he is just as capable of complaining, as he did last year when the Brawn went from hero to zero in the matter of a race or two. But at least as he said yesterday, they gave him the option to come in and pit, he could feel the track, he took the chance. Whereas LH waited until the technical data said "it is time to pit". I think that could be the biggest flaw in LH's game, he doesnt seem to have that intuitive 'feeling' for things yet, and relies too heavilly on his team to make his car go.

I don't deny that LH is a great driver, but I wonder if perhaps he's going to find that Button just 'fits' better and is able to develop the car more, because he understands the drive, rather than looks at numbers..

That just screams lack of experience. Obviously down to age. In 5 years, I hope LH is as calm as Button is and then he'll be an awesome driver.

A very good piece that by Allen on what I said earlier about Jenson leading and Hamilton being led ^

I forgot about the 2007 race when he stayed out on destroyed tyres and then of course the liegate.

Perhaps growing up around the team and being there so long has done this. Maybe just maybe he would benefit leaving Mclaren to become his own man elsewhere?

£10 says he wins the next race. ;)
