AVB leaves Chelsea (sacked)

Was that a sly dig at Terry by David James? Said he's not surprised to see his name in the reckoning for the Chelsea job but was surprised he wasn't put forward for the England job :o

:D

I saw that too!

Exactly what I thought. John 'Mr Popular' Terry.

Not really surprising as the results haven't been good enough for a while. Which decent manager would want the Chelsea job considering the rebuilding required, rumours of player power and the impatient chairman?

I would do it - six/seven months for a few million quid sounds like a win win situation.

8 managers in the 9 years that Abramovich has been the owner of Chelsea...says it all...

Yeah, he doesn't seem to realise that part of the reason some clubs are successful is that it takes managers a couple of years to settle in and get the team working how they want...

. Let’s face it we are still quite capable of qualifying for the Champions leagues and winning the cup. Anyone who thinks otherwise is rather foolish. After this episode I have no doubt that we will come back even stronger.

personally I think you are being foolish if you really believe you can do either let alone both.

from the teams current performace levels, it would be a miracle if De Mateo can do either with a striker that is on form let alone one misfiring as badly as Torres, or showing his age like Drogba , Matta can't do everything himself

chelsea will be relying on a lot of luck to even get to the FA Cup semi let alone the final, and odds are firmly against them making top 4 given current position and who is closely around them

Surely you could work that one out for yourself. :p Same as everyone else’s plan, win games.

No, what's the long term plan for the club? Which direction are they moving in?

The owner seems to want instant success without any long term strategy to ensure a long term winning formulae.

This job is as bad as Real Madrid.

I do feel AVB was a good manager, with potential to be a great manager, he had an aging squad who it seems he must play, restricted on decisions and seemingly the most political managerial job in football.

Least he has made a quick buck, will be interesting to see where he ends up next.

There are other advisors in his entourage that in Abramovich needs to sack at the same time.

As a Chelsea fan, do you know who any of these guys are and what decisions they're making?

AVB admitted that the signing of Kevin de Bruyne wasn't his signing and I think it's safe to assume that he wasn't an Abramovich signing either. Who chose to sign him? In fact, who chose to sign all the players you signed this summer?

As I mentioned earlier, there's no unity at Chelsea. There are too many different decision makers (to varying degrees) at one club and seemingly they all have a different plan.

After this episode I have no doubt that we will come back even stronger.

Really? What makes you think that? With FFP coming in, the potential failure to qualify for the CL and your old guard (who you've relied on to get you through the constant mess you keep getting yourself in) on their last legs, it's difficult to see how Chelsea will ever get back to what they were 5 years ago.

I think AVB needed to stick where he was for a couple more years. The Chelsea job came just too soon in my opinion. There's something rotten at that club as well.

I've already faxed my application through. :p

Oh and surely it's 9 managers in 9 years. Matteo isn't going to last long, he's got the job until the end of the season or in other words when they pay off the club currently employing who Roman wants next.
