**Baddass' Ultimate TFT FAQ and Reviews! (20" and Above Models)**

Ok so my clunky ugly CRT is hurting my eyes now (its blurring in the corners - not the best thing when your reading/coding!) - so its nice looking tft time.

2 Things are important -

1) Look - may as well complement my setup if i'm going to pay the $
2) Gotta handle games well enough (not a great FPS man, more an RTS)

I was toying between the Viewsonic VX715 and Sharp LL-172G from here .

Comments/Thoughts?
 
well i personally prefer the look of the Viewsonic. plus, VS are a well established provider of TFT's as well. only problem is it has an older 25ms response time panel. prob not an issue anyway, but something to be wary of perhaps.

the Sharp is nice too, newer 16ms panel (prob 16ms AU panel, havent looked into it tbh) but there arent really many Sharp TFT's around. its a tough choice for sure

around that kinda price mark u could also consider the Hyundai L70S which is fantastic too (on the front page of this thread)

Anyway i know there is lot of info in this thread but thats partly my problem, also i know next to nothing about TFT's.

But i do know that i want one, currently using a CRT which is a pain, I'm looking for a 17" TFT thats very good for fast paced gaming, half life 2 and other faster moving titles. Price is not really an issue, picture quality and no ghosting are.

I haven't looked at any monitors in specific but maybe some suggestions? doesnt have to be from OC though. Thanks for any suggestions.
 
welcome to OcUK :) ANY of the ones in this thread will be fine for you really, just have a read thru the ones on the front page. the popular ones are Samsung 172X, LG1710B, LG 1720B, Hyundai Q17 and now the cheaper Hyundai L70S. Any of those will be great as will any others which ppl come along and recommend really tbh. just find one which u like the LOOk of and the price suits you and u should be fine. they all have great specs and many even use the same panel. once u've found one u like the look of, check this thread for opinions and make sure it sounds suitable for you

I heard that viewsonic changed the VX715 to a newer 16ms panel so i looked on the site....

Hmm, the Viewsonic website does indeed have the VX715 down as a 16ms panel... but the OCUK site says 25ms :confused:

Anyone know anything about this??

ive read all the VX715 made after week 31 are indeed 16ms, i think ocuk havent updated their site yet.

anyone got a VX715? care to tell us about it? ive checked the net and it seems very good for the price, just that not many people have raved on about it,

Any thoughts on the VG712 monitor? Seems a reasonable price for a decent 12 ms screen, or have I missed something? Just want a decent 17 inch TFT which will be used mainly for gaming, with the odd dvd thrown in from time to time.

Will the Viewsonic VG712 fit the bill or is there something else I should consider?

This is a right minefield but I think I may have decided to go for 2 x Samsung 172X. Looks nice and seems to have a good spec.

Btw do none of the 17" panels have true 24bit colour?
 
Any info on the Hyundai L90D+ 19" 8ms LCD that's on the OcUK front page at the mo?

I had a google but couldn't find much out. Looks like a nice piece of kit, but I'm wondering if there are some hacks going on that enable them to tout an 8ms response time that ought to be known about before buying one.
 
I'm having a real tough choice at which one to get.

Was planning on getting the 172X, but I've seen the LG 1730P and that looks nice too, and is cheaper.
 
Does anyone know if there are any 17" monitors taht don't use "dithering"? This seems one reason to get a 19" as it seems some of those do display true 16.7mill colours....
