not that im aware of, they all use TN film panels, whereas some of the larger ones use VA and IPS panels for instance

well no not really. nowadays colour reproduction can be very good on the more recent TN panels. However, if you're a SERIOUS photo editor, then i would say get a larger model with an IPS or VA panel, or just stick with a CRT. At the end of the day, the colour on TN panels is still very good, just depends on how fussy you are about it all

Well, I'm fussy enough that I'm not happy about paying £300 or so on a TFT monitor which can't display all the colours...

So I think I'll sit TFT out until the technology matures a little more.

ok people.
Just bought a fat pc. As you can see my specs are "a bit of allright" and having the X800 must mean Im in serious bussiness.
So I need a CRT or TFT. I know when people say they want it for gaming everyone says get a CRT. I have no problem with a CRT apart from they dont seem to be exspensive.... (hey I have the cash).
So I have £400 to spend. With that kind of money Im thinking to get one CRT or 2 TFTs at 17". I dont want to spend £400 on one TFT. I think thats silly for me.
The pc will be used for heavy gaming/movies/photoshop, a lot of things.
So I want quility and .... quility. If its a TFT I also dont want a fat panel round it.
So spec me up my peeps and let get (me) spending the cash.
Thank you for your time
Tob3z

edit:: also it doesn't need speakers ::
more editing:: I would perfer black panel. If its a CRT is HAS to be black.
Also I can move on the price. prob about £500
And one more thing. I see some really nice laptops with screens that have a nice coating over them or something like that. You can view them at any angle and they look great. Can you get this with TFTs.
Thanks again

Just got myself an LG1730B and its fantastic...fully recommend this to anyone. Its got wonderful colour definition and everything is really crisp. As for gaming the is no shadowing that I have noticed so far. I am sure I will notice it in Quake 3 however as I am used to 120Hz but for normal games its splendid.

Only gripes I got with it are that it did not come with a DVI cable so add another £10-15 on top of the price when purchasing.

Pretty ACE on the whole.

any views on the v cheap OcUK 17" TFT which is on offer atm for only £135 ?

want 1 if not 2 new decent tft's for gaming and general net use.

not sure if this ones worth getting or save and get a better / more xpensive one ?

even save for a 19" ?

Just thought i'd post that OCUK have updated the spec listed on the Viewsonic VX715 to the correct 16ms response time.

Might buy 2 at that price and looking like it does...

Baddass, what do you think I should get.
2 TFT's, 1 TFT, or CRT?
Its realy hard when your new at this. I will be gaming and photoshop so people keep saying a CRT. Are TFTs going to be catching up with a CRT anytime soon?

Samsung 173p & 193p Owners
DID YOU KNOW!

Im not sure if I posted this before but it could be possibly added to the 193p section.

Some people were put off with the fact this display has no control buttons. A few online reviews warned against purchasing one if youd require VGA adapters for consoles possibly even the Xbox V2VGA adapter like I use myself. I discovered a way to control the brightness contrast etc whilst playing some Xbox games.

Easy Guide.
1. PC via DVI load the Samsung Magictune software on desktop.
2. Have you VGA device/console all connected and running on the VGA input.
3. On your mouse click on the slider control for eg: brightness and HOLD POSITION & MOUSE BUTTON IN, switch input over on the monitor
4. Input will change to the console now move your mouse left or right and the display will still make the adjustments.
5. Go back and do this for Contrast Brightnes etc.

It still requires a PC to be on but for most people this will hardly be a problem as I rekon very few people will be carrying around just a console and 193p monitor.

Hope its of some help to us few users/owners.

well i think most ppl will tell you that modern TFT's are perfectly fine for gaming. The sharpness, brightness, vividness of colours and the "feel" of a TFT can make gaming a treat! Modern TFT's using 16ms and 12ms panels are perfectly fine for gaming as any owners of them will tell you.....just look through the comments by users in this thread!!

go get yourself a TFT! You know you want to! they are just so much cooler than CRT's!!! :)

as to whether you want to get 1 or 2, then i would probably start with 1 really good model as opposed to 2 slightly more average models. Get one of the top 17inch or maybe even 19inch models and then if you like it, get another one in the future.

If it were my money spending on a TFT now, i would go:

17 inch (my preferred size really at the mo) - (in no particular order really) Samsung 172X, LG1720B, Hyundai Q17+

19inch and bigger (if i were stretching to a larger screen) - Viewsonic VX912......possibly some of the others, but prob not if i was a serious gamer....for gaming, i would personalyl stick with a 17inch model,

hth a bit!

What about the Hyundai L70S ? is this worth a look or is the Q17+ worth the extra money ?

It only seems to lose the DVI input over its more expensive brother ?

the L70S is brilliant, and has a very good quality VGA connection to make up for lack of DVI. the only other deciding factor might be the look of the TFT's imo

Cheers :D

I see Oc only list the Hyundai of the 3 you mentioned in your post above ?

Of those listed by Oc what other 2 would be your choices in the 17" size range to go with the Q17+ ?

BTW : what benefits will i get from using the DVI input ? Will i really notice a difference between the 2 ?? 1 pc has a DVI socket on the grafix card but the other does not.....

well the L70S is a nice monitor and is on more of a budget range.

my personal favourites at the mo for any 17inch TFT's are: Samsung 172X, Hyundai Q17+, LG1720B......have a shop round and see if u can get them. if you're def buying from OCUK, then perhaps look at the Viewsonic VX715 too, but i would personalyl try and track down one of those 3 i listed if you can, theyre beauties! :)

EDIT: regarding DVI and lack of, read the front page of this thread about it, rather than me rehasing the same answer as there
