**Baddass' Ultimate TFT FAQ and Reviews! (20" and Above Models)**

just looked through the January edition of PC Pro - they have given the liyama E431-s the A-list 17" TFT and recommended product awards.....so i suppose this monitor should also be added to the FAQ.

anyone read any external reviews of this panel?

Would you really say that at the moment they are the bunch to choose from? I'm not overly clued up on products about at the mo, and if you lot recommened one of these, it's certainly make it easier to research...

yes, the previously listed TFTs are *the* 17" panels that you should look at.

Hi guys,

I've been reading lots and lots of TFT threads and still I cant decide! :(

Xmas is coming and I'm thinking of getting a 17' TFT baby.

My requirements:
Office use (mainly coding)
Browsing the net
Watching lots of movies!

Although I'm not so much into gaming I would prefer an average performance.

My main concern is the viewing angle. Since I'm considering of mounting the monitor for watching movies I would like it to have a great viewing angle!

My current thoughts are on the Acer 1731 and the Hercules 920 (read that Huyndai and Hitachi have poor viewing angle, not sure about the LG).
I'm also thinking about the widescreen Samsung one (should be superb in watching movies!), but I'm not quite sure about its performance (it's quite an old monitor), any probs that may arise from the aspect ratio and the fact that its kinda pricey makes it even less appealing, any feedback on that greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

i think the herc uses the same pannel as the Huyndai.

I'm gona go for the viewsonic myself on pay day as it seems a good all rounder, thin bezil, it tilts (not really somethin you could use if you mount it) and two vga inputs and one dvi

very interesting news:

http://www.tomshardware.fr/articlemoniteur.php?IdArticle=489&NumPage=1

its in french, but hey.

sasmung have said that the 172x has been pushed back to january/february and that all panels tested thus far have been using the "16ms" panel. The panel that will actually be released to the public will be a proper 12ms (6 up 6 down) with 16.7million colors (according to pcstats iirc)..... and for those sites claiming to have tested the 12ms version of the panel there are NO 12ms panels in any 172xs thus far...

Well the Acer and the Hyundai are the same panel, and someone has said the the Hercules is the same too. There's plenty of info on the forums about the Hitachis.

Personally i'm very happy with my Acer, but pick the model that has the features you want most.

Done that, not a lot of info on the viewing angle or the Samsung 172W

Au Optometrics (LG, NEC, Hitachi) viewing angle is a little better than the Hyundais/Acer/Hercules.

Thanks GAmbrose,

I've been reading every review I can find!

No bad comments so far...but! Still not convinced for some reason :(...

Could be the Widescreen aspect, the 25ms response...dunno

eh? you getting confused with the 172W mate - which is a pap screen.

every review ive seen has said it is rubbish in terms of ghosting, but according to the samsung guy (i posted a link above) the panel that reviewers have seen are not going into retail production - they are bringing in a brand new 12ms panel (although the reviews may list 12ms as the 172x specs, they only tested the poorer 16ms "pre-release" version).

I'm gonna wait. Apparently the market is due for oversupply early in the new year so prices should tumble again. The more I wait the more monitor I get for my target price. I don't really want to pay more than about £300 for a 17 incher
