Bahrain GP 2009 - Race 4/17

M. Andretti was an accomplished racer. He was a good driver. His problem was that he had less than a single season to prove himself, alongside the fastest single lap driver of all time (Senna), who was blowing him away, with ease.
If I remember correctly, he fell off the road and retired at the first lap, first corner in the first 4 races. Even when he survived the first lap he was way back in the running order.
He was useless in F1

Toyota have to be one of the favs for front row starts here, as they have tested here and clearly have a fast car.

Mclaren seem to have genuinly improved their pace whilst Ferrari possibly gaining an advantage from the testing - cant wait for their new aero to arrive!

Should be a very fun quali!

He was lured to McLaren by Ron Dennis promising that they would have the Renault V10 rather than a Ford V8 that wasn't even as high a spec as the one in the Benettons. He started out in F1 just as the FIA announced new limits on in-season testing and a cap on the number of tyres allocated for race weekends. As for the races:

1) In his first race the gearbox malfunctioned and he didn't get away at the lights, he later got going again but got into a fracas with Derek Warwick and wiped a corner off his car.
2) Round 2, and he's taken off at turn 1 by Berger in an almighty smash.
3) Donny Park, and Wendlinger takes him off halfway around the first lap.
4) 4th round at San Marino, his car malfunctions in practice and spins him off. Everyone says it's his fault, despite the same thing happening to Senna a few times. Then in the race he's battling for 4th when his rear brakes....um....break.
5) Spain, and he finally makes it to the flag in 5th.

Time and time again that year he got taken off by someone else, or the car ****** up. Yes, he should have tested more. Yes, he shouldn't have commuted from the States like his Dad did before him. Yes, he did make a few mistakes himself. But "useless in F1"? People always seem to forget his storming drive from 16th on the grid in Magny-Cours (after another car malfunction in qually) up to 6th. Or his podium in Monza. Or the fact that McLaren put him under pretty horrendous pressure by announcing to him early on in the year that they had Mika waiting in the wings if he didn't up his game. Or the fact that McLaren lied about their engine deal to get him to join the team (McLaren lie? Surely not!).

He didn't do himself any favours, but neither did McLaren.

Anyway, back to F1's present.

Drivers that JRS thinks should be sacked:

1) Piquet. Now he is usless in F1. He's not quick, he throws it into the scenery far too often, he's got to go. Replace him with a potato - the car would be quicker and less likely to crash.
2) Bourdais. Again - not quick. Claims the STR4 doesn't suit him....I'm pretty sure he said the same thing about the STR3. Replace him with Takuma Sato - at least when he bins it he's going bloody quickly.
3) Raikkonen. His heart just isn't in it any more. Replace him with Alonso, please. But only if Ferrari improve the car.
4) Hamilton. He's proven himself to be completely incompetent at getting away with lying to the stewards, and McLaren need someone that can cheat and not get caught. Replace him with Bruno Senna, because F1 needs to see "SENNA - MCLAREN" on the timing charts gain.

***Note for the rather more humour-impaired among the Hamilton fans on this forum - I may not be entirely serious about one of the above. Can you guess which? ;)***

***edit***

Well said JRS.

It worries me greatly when you agree with me....:D

Massive Kudos to the drivers this weekend. 49c track temps??
I was just out kicking a ball about with my daughter between FP3 and now and according to the garden thermo, its nealry 20c here, and i'm sweating with that!

p1. Toyota
p2. Brawn GP
p3. Wildcard low fuel runner?

Thats my grid prediction, unsure of which drivers for P1 or 2, both drivers from those teams are capable. I'll stick my neck out and put hamilton down for a top 6 position.

Reckon Donington have totally shafted themselves chasing a pipe dream. Could never see the race happening from day 1.

Now they've lost the Moto GP race to Silverstone and have a half dug up circuit which might not get finished now if they lost the race.

Donington was just never going to happen. That Simon Gillet guy has just been used as a pawn by Bernie. Quite sad really but he's a bit dumb really if he didn't see it coming.

I don't know what Bernie's motives are. Maybe he wants to oust the current leaseholder and get the rights to the track for himself.
