Bahrain Grand Prix 2010, Sakhir - Race 1/19

fastest lap 1:58.287 by alonso.

Most only managed mid 1:59 and a fair few 2:00+

they really were slow. I'm interested to know if they were saving the tyres to much as we didn't see anyone with bad tyres which I was very surprised about. Or were those times down to bad tyres. Ride height probably made some of that differencing. But I think Brundle said no more than 0.2 seconds a lap.
Not quite as fast towards the end as I thought once they'd used up most of the fuel onboards. OK so they can't change all the set up changes they have to make to allow the car to work with the full fuel load but even so quite slow. Perhaps they all took it easy to see how the tires worked as its the first non-refuelling race?

Dull race, but that is hardly surprising. The drivers were conserving the tyres as much as possible as they weren't sure how they would last. After a few races they will have a better idea and hopefully the drivers will attack more.
There could have been a bit of excitement if Vettel didn't have his exhaust problem as the top three were trading fastest laps for most of the race. Also as the season goes on and point gaps start to open the drivers behind will start to take more risks and push harder at the start.

Bridgestone need to make the tyres last only half as long.

That will spice things up.

Agreed they are too hard and the laptimes on anything other than 10 laps of fuel are far too slow.

I'm sure it's early days and they will get a bit less durable. After the US gp you can see why they would take a conservative approach. Plus theres no real incentive for Bridgestone to push the boundaries with no competition and withdrawing from f1 soon.

I was expecting the cars to be much faster towards the end of the race. Were they really still doing nearly 2 minutes at the end?!:confused:

Yep. Mainly due to trashed tyres, overheating cars and danger of running out of fuel I believe!

What a crap race. And result. (Not an Alonso or Ferrari fan ;) )

Wasnt the exhaust :(

Why JRS believes that Button has any chance against Hamilton is beyond me. Unless he is just baiting me. :D

Yeah sunama. That's all I'm doing. Just baiting you. I honestly think that you are so important a factor in my life, that I need to bait you. On an internet forum of all things.

*sigh*

/sarcasm mode off

Didn't see the race yet, given that this is Mothering Sunday I had slightly more important things to do. From what I can tell, the FIA have managed to screw things up so badly since the end of '93 that even banning refuelling hasn't added much in the way of excitement. Hey ho. I stand corrected on my posts that invoking that rule change would improve matters. Not the first time I've been wrong, certainly won't be the last.

I'll post some thoughts when I get chance to watch the race all the way through. All I can say right now is that I'm happy that a Ferrari has won, and a Ferrari has come second, and I'm ecstatic that both Lotus cars were classified as finishing :D:D:D Been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long since the Lotus name was on the grid, and I'm glad that they were the best of the newcomers.

Bit worried about this mandatory 2 tyre stops they keep talking about. Thats BS, they just need faster softer tyres or better still a tyre war. Get more than one tyre company and give them a tyre championship.
